Thermostat Stuck Open???

My 02 diesel seems to take forever getting to operating temp. With it being in the teens and a cover over the grill doesn't seem to matter much tempreture wise. I had a overheating problem back in October while pulling a hill. I am beginning to think the thermostat has retired. Anyone else experience this?

It takes a diesel forever to warm up, at idle it never will. I let mie idle 5-ish minutes in the a.m., then take it easy till you hit op temp. It takes 10-15 miles before mine is at normal temp. It's normal.

With the engine plugged in I would think it would warm quickly

Texas had a blizzard yesterday. Ok, its a blizzard to us.
Last couple days I can drive at highway speeds for 20+ miles and it never gets up to temp.
I get decent warm air but no where near the super hot air it is capable of.

My trip is only 20 miles and over 10 of these miles the gauge never moves.
Surely Texans don't need winter fronts do we?

That too...

Do you mean that you have your truck plugged in, and it still does not warm up? If so, how long do you have it on for?

In the colder temps it will definitely take longer to warm up and I am experiencing that myself. Also at lower speeds it takes longer to warm up so if you are having to drive slower than normal that will add to the problem.

BUT, you still could have a thermostat stuck open. IIRC they are designed to stick open if they fail. Of course some of them will fail to do that also.
