Thermostat Stuck Open?
Thermostat Stuck Open?
I've had the 2002 for about 4 months now and it seems like the thermostat in my CTD takes longer than normal to open, or get up to operating temperature ???. I start the truck, run for a couple of minutes to build fluid pressures, and then drive. 60 degrees outside air temp or 25 degrees takes a half hour or more OF DRIVING to get to 190.
My old 2000 CTD I had prior seemed to be about the same as a gas engine for the thermos to open, 5-10 minutes. Could I have a thermostat that is maybe not closing all the way when cooled off? I'd like to hear from some others with 2002's and your opening times. Thanks.

Re:Thermostat Stuck Open?
Sure sounds like a stuck open T-stat to me. I just replaced my second one in my 99 about a month ago, it was doing the same thing, taking for ever to warm up and not getting above 160*.
Go and get a T-stat form Cummins they say they last a lot longer than the Mopar replacement that I had. 8)

Here's the part # for the Cummins T-stat (180*= 3954194)

DB
