stacks

ok i have had my 7inch stacks for a long time now.. and i still like them but there is one thing that i hate about them.
the problem i am having is i have most of the compresson going out of the driver side of the stacks and that is the long side of the Y pipe.
the short side puts out verry little..
has any one seen or had this problem and maybe fixed it.. it dose not really matter but i dont like the way it looks when i put some smoke in them. most of it comes out the driver side

thanks michael

seen people take the Y-pipe out and weld a small plate at the Y down the down pipe. about 3-4 inch piece to catch and do better seperating on the exhaust.

Ya.. You have to add some back pressure to balance out the feed to both sides. Probably need an orifice in each elbow out to the stacks. The exhaust is taking the path of least resistance. Need to add some to balance it out.

You want to balance the pressure after the Y pipe splits. To add back pressure before the Y won't help the stack short run problem.

an orifice would be a plate with a certain sized hole in it, determined by you, and the same for each stack. 4 or 5 inch hole maybe. The exhaust pressure would backup at these points and both plates having the same size hole, would let the same amount of exhaust thru them, thus balancing the output of your stacks.

An orifice is basically a restriction plate with a hole in it. However with stacks you don't need much as the pressure is inches of water from the engine to atmosphere. Normally the pipes offer enough restriction to balance, but it seems that the large outlet pipes may just be too big to do that. I wouldn't want to add much restriction. I have never done it so I am not sure what size to do. With a 4" diameter pipe, a 3.5" diam hole would be pretty tight to go I think. Its a tough balance to get. But either way 2 3.5" diameter pipes/orifices would be more flow area than a single 5" outlet.
