IMHO you can't go wrong with either. Both are good quality dino oils. I did use Delo 400 (another good oil) until I got to Guam and switched to Premium Blue (couldn't find Delo 400 out here). You won't hurt the engine at all switching brands.

How did you end up in Guam? Better yet how did your truck get to Guam?

I am stationed out here (U.S. Coast Guard). And they had my truck shipped out here.

There is some more info on Valvoline Premium Blue. Another plus is that it is endorsed and reccomended by Cummins.

I thought premium was just the name. I believe I have seen Premium Blue in wieghts other than 15W-40. I think I have seen it in 5w30 or 5w40.

Unless its really cold where you are the 15W-40 will serve you well.

There are two types of the Valvoline...

ValvolinePremiumBlue (Conventional)

and

ValvolinePremiumBlueExtreme (Synthetic)

I use the "Extreme". I used it in the Cummins, and now I use it in the PowerStroke. They both seem to really take to it nicely. I figured since Cummins allowed their logo to be placed on the Valvoline product it was tested to the max. With our heat here in So.Cal lately my PowerStroke has been getting a serious workout. I really believe this "Extreme" motor oil has really done its job. Here's a link w/ more info. ValvolinePremiumBlueExtremeInfo

I have ran only Valvoline Premium Blue in both my '99 and this '02 dually and haven't had any troubles with the engine, other parts yes, but engine no. I like the fact that Cummins endorses the oil I use. Just my preference.

I use Rotella in my truck and have since I bought it......seems to work pretty dang good. But I think on my next oil change I might try some of the Valvoline stuff and see how it compares. I too like the fact that Cummins endorses it....must mean it's some good stuff!

Me, I just don't want that smell.... I know others have tapped up there intake ducts and all that (easier to just use different oil). My father's run rotella, and this and that, and I believe there all the same. I might just switch to the blue to see if it's any different, price, ect.

Valvoline Premium Blue, 3 gallons, and a Fleetguard oil filter cost me $35-$38 bucks in OKC, OK at Southern Plains Cummins on Reno.
