Valvoline Premium Blue?

I've heard of a few versions of this oil. The one I just put in is Valvoline Premium Blue 15/40. Says for diesel engines, endorsed and recommended by Cummins and formulated for EGR engines. It comes in a black 1 gallon jug. Is this oil any good? It was the same price as the Chevron Delo that I normally use.

That is what they sell at the Cummins parts counter, so it has to at least be good enough for them.

My local Cummins shop uses Valvoline Blue and Delo 400 interchangeably. They claim that Valvoline is backed by Cummins but, according to the techs, they say it is the same thing.

Just passing this along, I have nothing to back this up other than taking their word for it.

Rich.

To me, the important thing is that you use GOOD oil.

Whether that is a top quality dino oil or a synthetic, as long as they carry the proper ratings and are changed in their recommended intervals, you really can't go wrong.

It's all I've used in mine for 14K. I think it all comes down to personal preference.

You can also buy the Premium Blue in 5 gallon containers for slightly less than the one gallon jugs at Cummins too. Last one I bought was a little over $8 a gallon in the 5 gallon container.

I've been using premium blue for the last 100 k miles or so simply because it's the oil my cummins shop sends me in small drums with 2 oil filters as a set for 2 oil changes. It's the cheapest oil for me and it's backed up by cummins what else would I ask for?

Just a note - there is Premium Blue (conventional 15W40) and Premium Blue Extreme (synthetic 5W40 [group 3]):
