Yes, it puzzles me, cause I live in the most stringent state for vehicle emissions/California/CARB-ruled, and VW sells it's diesel Jetta here without Urea injection.

By the way, I hope the next Governor of CA shuts-down CARB. CA would have no budget deficit after that.

CARB single-handedly has ruined our state.......Businesses are fleeing our state in droves......Our CARB fuel mixtures are the only ones we can purchase, even though EPA mixtures have been proven to be as clean burning, and even better.

Anyone remember the MTBE debacle that CARB rammed down the CA driver's throat?

Europe has had ULSD for over a decade.
By the time ULSD was available in the US diesel prices increased and the economy started going in the crapper along with the auto manufacturers.
At this point they're struggling to survive let alone introduce new options.
Then someone is lying through their teeth. They tell us our Diesel is costing more because they can ship it to Europe, and that we now "compete" on the world market for it. If they are required to use 6 PPM, then ours ought to be unusable just as it was.

And to say that we could not now sell cars with emission systems that are tougher than required is suspect, especially since they build vehicles such as the Dodge minivan, which gets 48 MPG in the European trim......

Someone is lying to one of us.....

Market forces at work...

My wife is from Sweden and we travel to Europe every year or so. Diesel is about 3/4 the cost of gas there, because it's taxed at a lower rate- so you're paying like $6/gallon instead of $8. That, coupled with diesel's better fuel mileage, is why 50% of the cars over there run on diesel.
