Post-turbo EGT: Word from on high

Since installing a pyrometer on the "work truck" listed in my signature, I've been a bit concerned about how hot the EGT gets. I was poking around on Cat's website and saw the Cat Call Center section with an email address, so I asked them how hot the EGT should get. Here's their reply:

Dear Sir,

Thank you for contacting Caterpillar. The 1200rpm figure you mention below for shifting only applies to our heavy duty engines. The 3126 reaches it's peak torque at 1440 so you should be looking to downshift around 1500. Exhaust temperatures at that rpm are expected to be 1155 degrees and 1164 degrees at 2200 which is at rated horsepower. You should see a temperature of around 1167 at 1800rpm.

I guess I'm going to stop worrying about it until it hits 1200! They must have a helluva cooling setup on the pistons.
Yikes, that was costly. Mind if I ask why you dont move the probe to the pre-turbo possition? I did on mine and it is alot more accurate. There is quite a difference in temp readings that way.
