Old diesel fuel in 50 gallon fuel tank/tool box

I have a parts truck that has a tool box/fuel tank. I want to install it in my current truck. I put fuel in it in July 2008. Is it still good? What should I do with it? How would I go about cleaning the tank?

if you were in my area, i would pump the old fuel out for you. my '83' ranger burns anything as long as it's filtered.

Filter it and use it. Once you have used it all then cut the filter apart. If the filter is dirty then steam the tank out and have maybe have it coated, if the filter is clean then just use the tank.

Pump some into a clean bucket through a filter and see what it looks like. If it's dark or cloudy, don't use it.

I would think you could put 10-15 gal at a time to your tank and mix it with new diesel and it would be fine

The fuel is fine as long as it doesn't have water and algae in it. Diesel is not like gasoline. I've run fuel that might have been as much as thirty or more years old. No problem.

I used 150 gallons of 18 month old fuel, no problems.

Good question. I have a similar issue. Some of the fuel i have may be as much as ten years old. I did notice it was pretty dark after filtering. It is off road red, which I would use in my plow truck(not on road). Does any one see any prob using it mixed with some fresh after filtering to 10 micron, and water separation and some Power service? Using in a first gen.

In a P pump truck, I suppose I'd filter it and run it. Adding a bit to each tank wouldn't be a bad idea either.

In the CP3, though, I don't know if I would risk it, especially if you don't have a 2 micron filter. 6 injectors would be pretty pricey.

I do remember adding power service to it when the truck was running, so maybe it's still ok.
