I am just gald to see as a whole we worry about our engines. My sister came to me the other day saying her oil light was on. I checked hers and it needed 2 qts, thats in an engine that only holds 4 qts. I change my oil evey 5000 mi. Fleet guard and Rotella for me.

Some 3rd gen folks clearly don't read the fine print in their manuals. The 3750/7500 oil change for heavy/light use IS FOR CALIFORNIA VEHICLES. If you read the little symbols down at the bottom they will explain that to you. For 3rd gen vehicles the recommendation in the manual is 7500 miles for heavy duty and 15,000 miles for light.

Contrary to what one might expect, and also due to the high sump capacity, these engines are very easy on the oil. Those who do oil sampling realize this. If you're using synthetic oil like Amsoil or Delvac 1 on a 3rd gen, 10-20k between changes is not unreasonable at all. I read above of someone dumping Delvac1 at 5k and thats the most ridiculous waste of money I've ever heard. Might as well be using $5/gal Delvac 1300 at those drain intervals. OH well, some folks like to throw away their money
[/quote]

I agree with you. I haven't changed my oil yet and I'm at 7500. I'm going to change it tomorrow since I believe you are supposed to change the oil no matter what at 7500 and then you can do it every 7500 or every 15000. I am pretty easy on my baby so I'll probably do it every 10K or so with Delvac 1.

Re:oil change poll

Njoverkill I'm with ya. As soon as my baby hits 15k, I'm going to switch to Delvac1. I'll run the first drain just 5k to clean out any contaminants left over from the dino and then at 20k start on 10k intervals and sample to see where I am. 15K on D1 may be totally reasonable..

Re:oil change poll

Every one of our trucks get oil every 3K, Gas, diesel alike. Never have any problems AT ALL. 2 93-94 Chevy's w350EFI's 250K and still going, 1 03 D-max 80K in 12months NO Problem, 01 Chevy 6.0 Gas 85K in 18Months, and my Cummins 230K and still runnin strong.

PS. And every one of these trucks run AGCO oil, and filters where we can find one that fits. ;D

Re:oil change poll

I am putting Amsoil 15/40 in the next oil change. I run Amsoil in my 2001 Honda CBR929RR. I run that bike pretty hard and anything that red lines at 11,500 rpm's in my opinion needs good oil. I used Honda dino oil the first couple changes every 2000 miles and the oil was black. With Amsoil at 3000 miles it looks like it just came out of the bottle. Improved shifting and less engine noise. Anyway thats my 2 cents. Pretty excited just picked up my Edge EZ last night, going to install tommorow.
