First oil change / Fuel Filter change

Hello all..

Well I am nearing my first 12000 Km ( 7400 miles ) oil change ( new 2003 CtD) and was thinking of taking it in to the dealer for the first one.

Can someone provide me a list of things they will do?

Ie. Change the oil - chnage the fuel filter - grease???

As a side note....is this something I can do myself ? What about the diffs? Will they be changed at the first sceduled maintenance?

Thanks in advnce.

The list of things to do is in your maintenance logbook. Are you using scedule A or B. If you are using scedule A and have a 250 or 305 engine the oil change is not due untill 15000 miles. If you have a California 235 then you are due at 7500 miles. Of course you can go ahead and change at 7500 for 250 and 305 engine which would be schedule B requirments.

Use the Schedule B. Just have them change the oil and check ALL other fluids, bothe diffs, transfer, tranny and the like. You can wait to do the fuel filter unless you have noticed a decline in fuel mileage. Oh, yeah have them chek the air filter, even though it may not indicate it needs changing running durin the winter with the snow and stuff. Alot gets sucked up into the filter and you won't belive how bad it looks

Thanks Guys....

I think I'll let them do the first change then attempt the next....

A few things I love about diesel:

* Long(er) time between oil changes
* Not filling up every 2 days ( as with my old Jimmy v6) - now Weekly
* Looking above the roofs of minivans

Cheers

doitlater, not sure if you've got a 4x4, but you asked about grease; I like to give my tie rod ends a shot at every oil change. I think the manual says to do it every 6k miles or something like that.

Don't think there are any other zerks on the truck.

bulabula,

Yes it's a 4x4.

I assume I can just use my hand grease pump ( same as I use on my Skidoo's ).

What grease do you use?

Thanks

I have two grease guns, one with marine grease for boat and trailer; and the other has some lithium grease in it for the truck and everything else.

I'd use the skidoo gun.
