Ford's diesel drama drags on

This was posted on one of the Dodge Truck Mailing lists I belong too. Interesting read. Makes me feel sorry for those poor folks.....

The last paragraph says it all:

"And they will not cut the new truck any slack. If the new truck so much as sputters, James Schrader says he will pull into the nearest Dodge dealership and trade it for a Ram."

I liked this part also...

By comparison, there have been eight service bulletins for GM's Duramax diesel V-8 and none for the diesel engine in the Dodge Ram truck. Both engines debuted at about the same time as the Power Stroke

I guess you learn something every day. I, for instance, was unaware that an aftermarket exhaust was what killed head gaskets.

Must be the stock downpipe that saves my head gasket.

I bet that's it. The second you go to a 4" downpipe, that sucker is toast .

Makes sence to me. Allowing the hot exhaust to leave the motor causes excessive cooling of the head gasket. Especially combined with the higher flowing air filter.

Another thread asked about what killed GM. Here is a great example of an auto maker committing suicide.

They ought to do whatever it takes to win back the public. That won't happen, though, and soon we'll read about the death of Ford.

Regardless of preference, no family should be duped by an auto maker and left high and dry. Hope the folks with Fords make out Ok in the end.

Is this really the best America (Ford) can do? What the he?? happened?

Singleturnout, I am sorry about your 53 block cracking but every one of the big 3 have had bad blocks. Not nescasarilly in a diesel but it does happen. A weak block is a little different than all the problems that the powerstroke is having.

They are referring to the Common-Rail equipped 5.9L Cummins from '03 on. The article didin't get that specific - years only. The 53 block was long gone by then.
