DETROIT - Chrysler's new Italian management has once again shaken up the automaker's executive team, announcing the departure of two recently appointed brand CEOs and splitting the Dodge brand into two groups, one focusing on trucks and the other on cars.
Chrysler said that it would split the Dodge brand into truck and car groups. The truck group will be led by Fred Diaz Jr., who previously ran the company's Denver business center.
The Ram brand consists of the company's new Ram pickup trucks, as well as its commercial vehicles. Diaz also will take over as lead sales executive in the U.S. for the Chrysler Group organization.

How sad. To me, it's a bad sign of things to come. Trucks are their money maker, if indeed they have one at all currently. If they end up having to close down some divisions, they can at least continue with the truck division.
Here's the press release from Chrysler:

At least they'll still be called "Dodge Ram". Autoweek's coverage kind of led one to believe that they'd be called "Ram Trucks" (no Dodge).

BTW, I think they should kill the current Dakota (which they already pretty much did with it's last face lift), maybe call the 1500s "Dakotas" and the HDs "Rams" since the are kind-of two different trucks now.

Just gonna make it easier for them to dump Dodge autos if sales continue to plummet and the product continues to be garbage. The only decent, competitive car Dodge makes now is the Charger, and to a lesser degree, the Challenger. The rest? Junk. Avenger? Caliber? Spare me!
I'm guessing they'll sell off the Viper nameplate, and five years from now the only new Dodge on the marketplace will be a truck. I hope I'm wrong, but that seems to be the way things are headed.

Just some more of the same news I found on another site.

Hopefully the Ram truck brand will retain the "Dodge" infront of it, but just as another company on paper which could help with organization, financial reporting and regulations.
