Cummins engines getting bigger?

Went out and worked on a Skytrack today. It had a B series cummins 4 cylinder (4BT) with a displacement of 4.7 litres!

From what I have found out so far it looke like the 3.9 is gone and has been replaced with a 4.7

I'm wondering if the 5.9l 6 cylinder is next.

at .2l/ cylinder increase, if we extrapolated that to the 6 cyl, that would mean we would have a 7.1l 6BT. One can only hope.

Anyone out there know something else about this? I'm definitely all ears and excited.

The 6.7 liter is supposed to be introduced mid '07 MY.

Well, i wasn't far off. I'm kinda thinking i want to get my hands on the 4.7 4BT. The one I looked at was made for varying RPM's up to 2600 redline. Unfortunately it only made 110 HP. But with what looked to be a baby VP44(2 lines missing) and electronics, it may accept an edge box

Thanks for the link, now i really have something to be excited about.

Actually, I think it's a 4.5L. At least the ones we used in the AGCO tractors were. The Case-IH tractors were the same (4.5L), but electronicly controlled

Case still has the 4 cyl in the MXU series , there is a common rail version , and a lower hp mechanical injection version, the bigger MXU's use the 6.7 , also depending on model some have common rail , some have mechanical injection.

you are right, it is a 4.5l

The data tag reads...

DOM 04/oct/05 Cust Spec 8262162
275/4.5 Model ?SB4.5
CPL 8401 Serial 30208737
110 HP @ 2500

The ? after the model # is because that letter was illegible.

This was not a common rail engine (wish it was), Instead it was a VP-electronic- pumped engine with a mechanical fuel pump. Kinda an odd configuration but it seems to work well.

that ? mark you have in there should be a Q , it is the QSB series , kinda like the ISB (24 valve) in the dodges.
