Confused on which engine I have...

I just purchased a new 04 3500 cummins dually yesterday and and I am confused to which engine option I have. The window sticker clearly states "HO" and my salesman also said it was an HO with 305/555. The other trucks window stickers clearly had "600" in the engine description.

Today I popped the hood to take a look at the engine for the first time. First thing I noticed was on the drivers side of the valve cover the model is IBS 325 (I think it said IBS) and right below it the advertised HP was 325.

I did a search on this site for differences between the 555 and 600 and came up with a few hits. I do have a cat converter and the fan shroud is mounted to the engine. Is there anything else I can check?

What do you all think I have. Sure looks like I got a 600 and someone messed up the window sticker.

Oh, and my milage is pretty low...12's so far.

TIA,
-Allen

Yep, judging by the mileage alone, I'd say you definitely got a 600!

The valve cover sticker and the cat are the other dead giveaways.

Does your window sticker say anything about the motor? I believe it should be listed under the options column on the right side... "Cummins 600 Turbo Diesel" or something to that effect. If you do indeed have the wrong window sticker, did you pay the wrong price? Could be a good thing or a bad thing depending...

fuel mileage increases as the break-in occurs. Tow some stuff w/ it after the critical 500 mile pre-break-in and it'll wear the rings and seals a lot faster and the mileage will increase.

Grumpy:

If you go to the dealer where you bought the truck they can run a listing of the build features and all options on your truck (ususally a 3 to 4 page report) that will list things that will come in handy later for servicing or repair. Usually it is free. If they want to charge you, go to the parts department to the dealer on 121 where 360 merges.

Thanks for the replies.

As soon as I get a chance I will take it by a dealer and have them run the VIN and verify the build.

The only reference the window sticker has is just "HO". All the other trucks I looked at said "600". I am pretty sure this is a 600 and someone messed up the sticker or input it in the computer wrong.

Don't all the 555's come without cat's?

Thanks,
-Allen

You've got a 600 You can also look at the turbocharger compressor. The 600 has an electronic solenoid on it, versus a brass boost elbow of the 305.

I just got back from the dealer and they ran a "VIP Summary Report" for me. The engine is listed as code"XCK" Cummins 600 turbo diesel. Looks like I definately have the 600.

Thanks for all the inout.
