Cummins Thoughts on fuel

I do not know if this is the right place to post this but I'll give it a shot..

With so many different opinions out there as to what is the right fuel (and filters) for your Cummins engine, I just though it would be nice to post a very current service bulletin that came from the horse's mouth, CUMMINS..

No sales hype, just the facts as to what is acceptable to Cummins.. For our business, we have made the choice to follow their recommendations because I have so much at stake-about 50-70 new engines per year and we take care over 300 of them on a continuous basis. It’s real typical to have engines in own business run 2000 hrs per year +++ and do it in nasty conditions.....

Sure, we have own politics, own preferences, and own phobia's on many related issues, but overall, we believe in their testing, their results, their recommendations, and their products to keep the word "downtime" out of the equation..

A little wordy, but has a ton of good info that may help you decide to re-think your own ideas on fuel and fuel filtration..

Good reading and keep on truckin'

the most surprising info I got was right up front, " from table 1 :
Required Diesel Fuel Specifications

Cetane Number 42 minimum above 0°C [32°F]; 45 minimum below 0°C [32°F]

This surprised me alot because I frequently go to stations that have their fuel labled 40 cetane......... sounds a litle low for normal weather, but when you look at the spec Cummins suggest below 0 c, 32 f, they want 45 cetane or higher !. Wow, big shock, guess I will keep usin the power service, especially when I use those stations, in fact, I have never seen a cetane rated 45 or higher by me.

looks like this one needs a bump, as not enough responses to a topic needing a look at.
