Help...quick thoughts on 04 fuel canister mods...
Howdy...got to figure this out by 5pm MST...
I have my OEM fuel canister out and plan on sticking a new style Vulcan 1/2" diameter draw strew and return in it. The new style from GDP sticks right into the same hole that the OEM pickup fits in.
I think...well already have gutted the original "coiled" pickup line and plan on running the 1/2" straw down into the bottom of the canister.
For those who have not seen one...the canister slides back and fourth to make sure the bottom pick up screen rests ~1/4" from the bottom of the tank. There is a molded "stand-off" that keeps the screen up and allows fuel underneath it. The screen seems to be somewhat restrictive...even though it is ~3" diameter. The way the OEM sytem works is that the fuel is picked up between a upper and lower screen...so both return fuel that splashes down inside of the canister and "new" fuel that is picked up from the tank is filtered.
Well....you really can't get the 1/2" line into the OEM location of that screen...modded or not.
So...I am thinking about cutting the screen out...measuring the drawsraw with the can in place and cutting it so that ends about where the screen used to be ~1/4" up from the bottom of the tank.
Or...should I just take off the whole screen assembly (snaps on and off) and place the straw at the same 1/4" up elevation? It seems like the molded body of the screen/stand off thing is what controls slosh to some degree so well in the 03-04 style canisters?
Anyone know what I mean????? Clear as mud????
Thoughts????
Thanks.

I think I would want the pickup closer then 1/4" to the bottom?
or use some sort of flexable tubing so you can kinda rest the straw on the bottom. You would want to cut a "v" notch on it tho so it won't close off flow.
take some pics so we can see what you come up with! :-)

Well...since I was left out in the cold on this one...or I am the only one who felt like modding an 04 canister...correctly...I am not sharing what I did..
All I will say...is it works great...maintained low fuel manners as good as stock and fixed my 10 psi lift pump drop at WOT. Oh ya...also has a screen.
