Bio/Veg oil???
I know its prob been asked but is anyone on here running alternative fuels?
I have a friend who has a H1 and is making his own fuel from veg oil for 50 cent per gallon. He says his stuff runs good on it.I have a great hookup for the oil so I was wondering if anyone here was doing it.

I run B20 all the time..
I also run b99 that a Co-op group makes in my area..
I am also currently building a 54 gallon Grease tank for my truck to run WVO
My truck runs great on b20 and B99
I can not wait to get my WVO working

Since your in NC and its not too cold there you can just filter the WVO and do the lye process to remove the glicerin and you will be set. No need for meth to thin it out.

Nice being able to run off alternative fuels... we have a station here in town with plenty of b99... but I prefer to run pure, sweet diesel! Yummy! My truck seems to love it more than the other.
Bio isn't always a good thing, but it works.

Wvo
I have been on straight WVO for 4 years. Use a two tank setup, heat the WVO. Start on diesel and switch to WVO when things get to operating temps. Check out this forum http://www.frybrid.com/forum/index.php

Theres pros and cons to this no matter how you do it. If you make bio expect to invest 500$ or so in equipment like pumps, barrels, filters and hoses. A conversion for WVO is probably up near 1500 in parts.
With biodiesel youre tied to methanol or ethanol. I priced methanol at 326$/barrel a couple weeks ago, and ethanol at 400$/barrel.
Lye is cheap. About 1$/lb if I remember right.
methanol goes in at about 22% so around 12gal for 55gal oil. ITs cheaper, but not really cheap. Gotta look at all the cost over time. Lots of labor involved in either approach. you still need to process WVO to get the crud and water out which can be almost as bad as making bio.

Why not run both, with the money your going to be saving with a WVO kit like greasecar.com you could be running both. We are in the process of installing one in our truck. Your going to need a 30 plate heat exchanger if you go the WVO route.
The WVO needs to be at least 160 to 180 degrees.
