stupid question......

I am trying to figure out what would be the best avenue to take. I have a 2003 paralite ambulance(15,000 GVW) with a blown 7.3 powerstroke (wont even crank, or rotate) I have a 91.5 intercooled 12valve setup ready to go. But my delemna is..... I can get a cheap pre turbocharged, running 7.3 for nickles. Would it be even worth it to do the swap for the cummins, or will the pre turbo 7.3 bolt in and all I have to do is put on the newer turbo and intake ect. I live in mass and they suck for inspections. I know that once I put the cummins in the old ford comp is junk. I think they require you to pass the inspection for the paticular year and model of vehicle you have no matter what engine is in it. So when they plug into the comp to check codes eveything will be screwed. I hope someone out there can help me. It has the allison in it so either way I go I have a good tranny. This is a long distance fishing rig.

Um, would this be a Pre-94 7.3L NON-Powerstroke?

pretty sure it is more work to make a non turbo 7.3 turbo charged than just switching the intake and exhaust manifolds.

It is a pre 94 7.3 engine. Anyone have any ideas about inspections on a vehicle with an engine swap? I would rather do the cummins upgrade.

And I forgot to note; the chasis is an e450 ford van with the ambulance box on the back. Will there even be enough room for the swap?

well, I have learned some new stuff. The injectors on the new T444E engines are in the cylinder head. So I cant use a pre 94 engine. But the block and heads and all equipment are same from 94 up. Meaning I can use all my parts on one of these newer blocks. The cummins swap into this van will be very pricey. And there will need to be serious mods to the engine compartment to widen and lenghten. None of those things I really want to do. So.... back to the old powerpuke motor.

Yep, the pre-94's are gutless wonders. You would have NOT been happy. It was the old IDI series.

Honestly, look at craigslist. I have seen 7.3 block come up every month or 2 for about $1500. But I also live near Chicago.

I found out the motor will crank, its an ambulance chasis, and had a 220 amp alternator. It froze and really siezed everything up. Even the starter couldnt turn the belt. Also the twin tensioners were froze in the super tense position. When I unbolted them I had the main spring fly inches from my face. Got all the accesories off and cranked her over. Then came to find out someone took both computers out. So.... Now I am in search for the comps cheap. Which is posing difficult. I cant just use any out of a truck. The peramiters for the van comps are set at a higher hp rating for the addtional weigh they carry. Vs the truck comps which are set at a lower more efficient setting. So... the hunt goes on. I am gonna use this thing to pull my 85' ram charger on 38" super swampers, around. I am gonna paint the whole thing o.d. green to match my rc, and I got this awesome tow truck bumper from the junkyard for fifty bucks. As I went through this thing, I noticed it has everything. They took nothing. I wonder how ****** people are gonna get with me when I hit the PA and tell them to get their piece of s**t foriegn job out of my way.
