Ford Excursion cummins swap (HPCR & 48RE)
Well I need it as well now
I've been chasing a squeaking noise for quite some time. Replaced the belt tensioner, power steering pump, and idler pulley bearing. Still squeaks... My used fan clutch has always had a very very slight wobble to it. Somehow the fan caught the fan clutch wiring and ripped it out. Luckily nothing else was damaged. But it lost my connector so I can't tell which wires went where. So I also need to find where I wrote that info down.
I also need to find a fan clutch (local dealership wants $380 for it
)
Currently, I just cut the rest of the wires off and have been running it like that for now.
Still having issues with my FCA and still waiting for a replacement...
Time is hard to come by, working 12 hour days currently. Pulled my engine and tranny out of my 01 last night. Runnin' on 3 hours sleep, thank god for caffeine

Thanks again for your help. I got more questions, I got it started today everything is looking good except my transmission. I haven't done anything wiring wise in the tranny, do I have to run any kind of relays or what do I have to do to make it shift? Right now it's coming out in second or third gear and it won't shift up or down. I will appreciate your help.
This entire post is incredible ...... a testament to the old saw: 'Where there's a will, there's a way.' ! Restored my faith in all you 'youngins' ...... when I pass on it will be with a

Update on a few small issues...
I finally got my replacement modded FCA and installed it yesterday. However, it didn't change anything. I still have some rail pressure issues (low max pressure, and drifts up in pressure when I get off the throttle). I'll be looking into this some more when I get some time.
I also had an issue a few weeks back where the tranny jumped out of drive into neutral while making a WOT run. This one has been bugging me for a while... I crawled underneath yesterday to see if anything was out of the ordinary, and I found the problem. The throttle valve cable was hanging up on the gear select cable end. Bottom line, when in Drive, if you push the pedal harder and harder, the TV cable was trying to push the gear selector from Drive towards Neutral.
So I bent the TV selector arm up out of the way so there is plenty of clearance now.

5.9, In case you still need a fan clutch- This one has right hand threads like mine:

My PI torque converter arrived, as did the fan shroud brackets, the alternator, one of the alternator brackets, and the correct fan mount. I'm still short the fan pulley, one of the alternator mount, a high pressure fuel line, a return line, and a power steering pump that bolts to the 15.3 cfm air compressor.
5 minutes with the sawzall and the fire wall will be ready for fiber glass patching. I need some shims for under my motor mounts or I'm going to have holes in the pan.

Well I got a new fan clutch, won't have time to put it on for another week or so.
I was able to get a laptop and refine my PCS controller shift points. It is much better now and doesn't require as many rpms as before to shift into 3rd and 4th under very light throttle positions. Seems alot better. I tried many different settings to try and take advantage of locking the convertor in 3rd gear, but I couldn't get away from a locked shift to 4th which is very very hard. So it's back to it was before, locking the convertor only in 4th gear.
I also downloaded the latest TNT files from www.smartypower.com and reloaded it onto the ECM. This time I tried the Wild torque management setting, Timing #1 - stock, RP #2 - mild. It runs much better than before. I assume it's the wild TM setting that made the difference. Spool is quicker, smoke is up, acceleration is up. Rail pressure still seems to be limited around 15-16k. When I get a chance I will be swapping the rail pressure sensor to see if it changes.
Today the wife got rearend'd driving it in Omaha. No one was hurt in our vehicle. Only damage was to the bumper and hitch (she claims). The other driver totalled their car and hit her head on the windshield.
Thank god for big vehicles... Two of the kids were sleeping at the time and didn't even wake up...

My 5 minutes with a sawzall turned into hours of hacking at the firewall and tranny hump. It's going to be easier to install a new one where I want it than it was to cut the old one out. Had to make room for the SAE#3 housing and the 15 cfm air compressor. My advice, don't go down either road. It's just too much PITA. The motor mounts I bought aren't going to work either, but I have paterns for what I need. Swapping tailshaft and rear housings with a guy, so I'll have the 4x4 setup. I'm all fired up about getting it done, but I've got to go to Charleston, SC for 3 weeks on business. Back home for 2 weeks, then off to Alaska for 4 or 5 weeks. Looking like August before I can do anything more on the truck.
