Just read through this whole thread

5.9Excursion, you are one hell of a mechanic! The electrical engineer part doesn't hurt either!

Very impressive work!

I have a buddy that is putting an 03 CommonRail engine in a 79 Bronco and I will have tell him to read up on this thread. A ton of good info!

I will be interested to see what you think when get your rail pressure issues figured out.

Did you get the stock tach to work?

Again, my hats off to you!

Thanks...

It was alot of research ahead of time as I couldn't find anything documented on all the details of a swap like this. That's one reason why I decided to put it all together, hopefully it will provide enough info for others to tackle a challenge like this.

Yes the stock tach is working now.

Currently waiting on a modded FCA, and hopefully Don M will get moved into his new shop soon so I can get some Flux 1.8's installed in this thing.

Just came across this thread. Great job on your conversion .

Awesome write up.

Here is a pic of mine, I've got about 20k miles on it so far and have been enjoying it for a little over a year.

Did you have to wire up the vistronic fan drive. There are five wires. On the fan side there is a black, red, white, orange, green, do you know which one is which. One is for park lockout solenoid control, sensor ground, fan speed sensor, 5 volt supply, and fused ignition switch output (run).

Yes I did, I'll have to see if I can find where I wrote it down. I know that the service manual didn't cover it...

Well I need it as well now

I've been chasing a squeaking noise for quite some time. Replaced the belt tensioner, power steering pump, and idler pulley bearing. Still squeaks... My used fan clutch has always had a very very slight wobble to it. Somehow the fan caught the fan clutch wiring and ripped it out. Luckily nothing else was damaged. But it lost my connector so I can't tell which wires went where. So I also need to find where I wrote that info down.

I also need to find a fan clutch (local dealership wants $380 for it)

Currently, I just cut the rest of the wires off and have been running it like that for now.

Still having issues with my FCA and still waiting for a replacement...

Time is hard to come by, working 12 hour days currently. Pulled my engine and tranny out of my 01 last night. Runnin' on 3 hours sleep, thank god for caffeine

What Cummins motor are you using? If it's a common rail use the cummins fan and clutch.

If it's an 04.5 or newer engine and transmission the Cummins ECM controls the tranny .
