That's great, hearing it run on the stand is a huge motivation factor to get more progress made. Glad to hear the ECM is OK...

Congrats ramman! That's progress.

I managed to get the engine into the cavern, marked where the interference is going to be with the firewall vs the SAE#3 housing and got the engine pulled back out and set down in the garage. Tomorrow it's Sawzall time if the weather cooperates.

I hacked, chopped and dented- looks like I'm now good to go for fit but I won't know for sure until I have the tranny mounted to the engine and all of it stuffed in together with the tranny mount and cross member installed. I cut the spot welded flange off (tranny hump to firewall) and I need to fiberglass the seam, but that seems to have been enough that I can now slide the engine clear back against the firewall. I'm still trying to decipher the motor mounts. They don't seem to be in the right places at the moment, so I'm assuming they are assembled incorrectly.

Made some progress today...

Opened up the back of the alternator to add a wire to drive the tach using my dakota digital box DSL-1. Tach works excellent, just need to hook up a DRB and get it spot on. Two buttons on the DSL-1 box allow you to adjust it up or down.

Got rid of the check engine light (had to cut the wire). There just isn't any other way.

Now I'm waiting on a new power steering pump as my used one is squeaking like crazy.

Also, my rail pressure issues are being caused by a bad FCA. So I expect a modded FCA within a week or so from Floor-It to resolve those issues. Hopefully, I can finally experience the power of this thing (especially since I have the Smarty TNT tune on it now) Thanks Bob!

I've been casually folllowing this thread for a quite a while. You are an excellent mechanic! I like your thoughtful and thorough work. This is how projects get done right. Good job.

5.9 Excursion,
Can you please explain that a little more? What is an "FCA?" and am I going to need a modded one for mine?

I've been slackin' for a couple weeks again and gotten nothing done on the truck. Tailshaft housing and shafts should be done in the next week according to Scott, so I'll be able to slap things together and hopefully get the mounting location finalized. I think that's the worst of it for me, after than I can piddle around with it and get it done eventually, but I'm kinda lost on the electronics, not that I'm ready for them yet....

I never would have guessed in a billion years that you would need to pull a tach signal off the alternator. That makes zero sense to me, but you've proved that it works, so I'll just follow blindly on that sort of stuff.

I'm seriously considering getting a power steering pump that bolts to the front of my air compressor, which in turn is bolted to the rear gear case. I think I'll have to move the computer though.

I'd like to eliminate that transfer pump on the back side of the computer mounting plate or disconnect it from the fuel system and run it as part of a stand alone system to a separate cooler up front for just cooling the computer.

I've got 2 brand new Bosch Racing fuel pumps installed on the truck and I have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, so I just need to install a fuel collection manifold (from the 2 CP3's and the rail) and a larger fuel return line to the tank for it all to work.

I'm sure I can turn the simplicity of that into a nightmare with an excessive number of dollars and hours wasted, but I'm I won't have a fuel delivery problem IF I can regulate the Bosch Racing (-044) pumps down far enough. With both running, I couldn't adjust down below 80 psi, but I was using the tiny stock return line. One pump might even be enough to feed both CP3's- but I don't know the flow rates or pressure requirement specs on any of that stuff at this point.

I will definately get some videos of smokin' the tires, however it will be after I get everything working right.

I'm still suspicious of my stock injectors, and would feel much better about things if Don could look them over and install some different tips.

The FCA is what determines how much rail pressure you get. Mounted on the CP3, removable with two or three little screws. Depending on what hp level you are shooting for, you may or may not need to do pump work.

Thanks for the explanation. I've got 2 stock pumps that are both fairly new, so I'm hoping I'll be ok.

The only other codes I have are related to the fuel level signal. It is expecting a resistance from the tank level sendor and doesn't have one right now. I need to find out what the resistance range is supposed to be and install a resistor from this location to the sensor ground to clear these codes.

Also noticed in the wiring manual that the fuel heater is always supposed to be on. I figured it only came on when needed, but per the wiring it is on when ever the key is in Run or Start. I currently don't have it hooked up yet.
Did you ever cure the P1652 code? If you did where did you get the parts and how did you install them? I have the same code. I also have a few transmission codes too, but my engine was a crate engine so I don't know whats up.

No, I don't believe it got rid of it. It takes some time for that code as well as the fuel level ones to show up and I flashed my ECM recently so I'm not sure if they are there or not yet. I tried the resistance for the fuel level circuit and it didn't work either, it must be looking for a voltage. I haven't looked into it since I tried the first time.

I had a whole bunch of parts left over from school that I used, soldered to a little circuit board and then wired it in.

Who did you get your Smarty from? I have been trying to contact Bob Wagner for some time now with no luck. My engine won't go over 2000rpm, for some reason it is in a safe mode. I think my ECM has a VIN in it and is also looking for transmission codes and wanted to reflash it to fix my problem.

From Bob Wagner, he's a very busy man. Keep trying and he will get back with you.

He's probably overloaded right now with emails, PM's, and phone calls of people trying to get the new TNT and TNT/R tunes for their Smarty...

So he just sent the Smarty with a recovery file already in it?

With that you have been able to load any of the programs?
