Imo, best bet is to hit yer local boneyard and denude a late PS crewcab, starting in the engine bay - everything should fit as factory, and it's fire-resistant where\as required - that crinkly stuff from yer local hardware emporium is not even....................

Anyway to make a "parts list" that is seperated between what is needed for a gas to cummins swap and from a powerstroke to cummins swap? How many man hours would you say you had into the swap?

So far best I ccan figure for a parts list for a powerstroke to CR cummins swap keeping MY BTS trans is this:

CR engine complete with turbo and accessories
Flywheel
Adaptor plate
Trans computer
power steering bracket
Intake filter
down pipe
And random hoses, pipes, relays, wiring etc.

Also I am new to the world of cummins, do they have 4" down pipes as a max size too?

Hey, did you ever sort out the shifting.

I have a 2005 HPCR Cummins in a '68 F250 that AutoWorld installed for me with a 48RE and ATS controller. They sent it back without programming the controller and I am having similar shifts. 1-2 is fine and 2-3 is fine sometimes, but most of the time 2-3 and 3-4 take a long time with a kind of a "sigh" in the middle or something similar to what you described.

Hard to get Joel in the phone to do anything.

Another cummins swap question. If I ever do I swap I am obviously going to build up the dodge. If I get a FASS150 for my ford, can I run that to a cummins fuel pump or does the ford FASS supply fuel at a higher pressure?

If I get some time, I'll work on a parts list.

As for the shifting, I currently have it setup to only lockup the TC after 50 mph (already in 4th). So no more locked 3-4 shift. However, I haven't given up on it. Just need to borrow another laptop to mess with it some more...

I gave up on contacting ATS for support, you should too. Honestly, it isn't worth your time (it wasn't worth mine anyways). Get ahold of PCS (actual people who make the controller) and they can help you with any question you have. Excellent customer support - Even though their site says to contact ATS for support related to the 48RE tranny.

Thanks for the input on ATS - I was getting nowhere at all as well. I was thinking of contacting their president and letting know what a poor job his (or her) people are doing. I agree that the TC lockup is the issue with the ATS unit. I tried selecting the option to have the TC unlock during shifts but haven't had a chance to check it out yet. The program they sent me had TC lockup at about 27 miles an hour which is just when the 2-3 shift occured when just cruising around which was really problematic.

Motor mounts, throttle position sensor. Other sites generally say to plan on 80 hours if you've got average mechanical skills. I assume that is in addition to a year of gathering parts and pieces.

Ford pump is MUCH too high. It runs typically 55 psi or so- and some guys run them up as high as 80 psi. I've got twin bosh racing -044 pumps installed that are brand new. I'm intending to adapt my regulated return from one pump and disconnect the power to the other but keep it plumbed in for a back up.

Niner,

The list is quite more extensive than that!!! Maybe I will put a list to gether also and we can all compare them By the way, if you have an engine with the Power steering pump on it, you don't need to use the Ford one. A small piece of 3/8 tube and some compression fittings from McMaster's and you are done.

5.9,

Great job and great job of documenting!!!! Quick question? You don't happen to have the part # for the Dodge A/C lines do you?

Greg, email this guy for your part numbers mailto:ngdparts@idcomm.com

Have Scott at Destroked add them to his needed parts list on his website.

On a side note add another 40 or 50 hrs on an OBS truck. If you want to use the cr ac you need to notch the engine cross member. I also installed a sd condensor so the ac lines are on the pass side.

You also need to notch the firewall for the engine to fit in the right spot. I'm sure I'll think of a few more things.

BTW I think this website should have a conversion only forum.

FYI to those talking about the wiring kits

Painless makes a 5.9 wiring kit to transplant any 03+ engine in to whatever you want...

Interesting- good info. Thanks for posting it. Now if only there was a way to just plug it into the existing wiring of a superduty, I think they would sell lots of them. I recently bought a Dodge Cummins harness on E-bay for $100 so I could get rid of the Freightliner harness that didn't fit my Dodge computer. Even still, my engine is a rear gear case, so I'm going to have to modify the harness I just bought.

I have the stock Superduty power steering pump and alternator and want to upgrade both. I'd appreciate some suggestions- keeping mounting in mind. Any ideas?

I found a C/R power steering pump and dodge alt on ebay for a good price. Sell your S/D pump and alt on ebay and mount your dodge pump and alt in it's factory location.
