I dont think the gear pump will feel any different. It has very similar flow and pressure compared to the gm one I took off. From my calculations it will take about 2.5hp under steering load.
Not sure what I am going to use for fluid yet. I am more concerned about the size of the reservoir for cooling purposes at this time.

Morning all.

Was curious why you don't like the SSB electric vacuum pump? The SSB kit I'm using is the only electric pump I've used/seen so my knowledge base is pretty limited. Would be curious to hear your views on this.

barnes pump. I have not recieved it yet so not sure how it is going to work. It is a hydraulic pump to run off of the front PTO drive. I had my neigbor order the two bearings and gear I need to install it.
I got my brakes working again this weekend but am not happy with the ssb electric vacuum pump. Thinking about trying a belt drive one from a older ford. I think I can mount it below the alternator pretty easily. But one project at a time. I am going to try to get the power steering working first.

It may be all the stop and go driving I get stuck in but the vacuum pump kicks on quite a bit in traffic. I just had to replace their special relay at 14000mi and had trouble with one of the diaphrams in the pump. I was hoping it would all last longer than that.

I stumbled across a Ford Vacuum Pump while searching ebay for pulleys,

Here's one from a Dodge. I don't know if the pulley can be swapped to v-belt.

Power Steering Thoughts

I was thinking about using a GM hydroboost system for my power steeringand brakes. This way I have the power steering and I don't have to run an electric vacuum pump for the brakes. I would have to get the double crank shaft pulley and make some mounts for the power steering pump. 3.3Sonoma do you have the part # for the double crank shaft pulley available? Do you guys have any thoughts or suggestions on this type of system?

Exclamation need B3.3 for my jeep

I just damaged my engine (48k miles) and would like to do the B3.3 conversion.

Because of MpG and emmission etc....
I think it is far more economical than the 3.9 ...

I need an engine a.s.a.p. and wondered where I could find one the best (used, low miles etc...)

Anyone?

I have something to make those COD blues go away. Any time you feel that head wind slowing you down think of me. I am building a 1960 FC-150 Jeep Forward Control. It has to be the biggest block of steel Jeep ever made.

I also have a question. Does anybody know of any web sites that have demensions of parts like :axles, trannies etc? There are very few of these ever made and nobody repops the parts. It does share alot of drive train with the CJ-5 but, I'm replaceing all that with a B3.3T.

Fc-150

Your FC-150 though not popular was bulit from 1957-1966, there was a drive line change in mid 1958. They wentfrom 48" wide front tread to 57" wide, which stayed until the end of production in 1966. the FC 150 had an 81" wheel base. and was basically 1/2 ton.

The FC-170 was 3/4 ton but was advertised as a one ton. there are a number of web sites around that can help you out, and parts are not to bad.

try this for some infor: http://jeepfc.www5.50megs.com/tread/tread.htm

Thanks Bob.
I'm learning alot with this vehicle. I have found alot of good sites so far. Since most of my build will be non-standard I was looking for sites that gave measurements or other brand parts I could swap in.
I want to build it to pull a trailer with small "vintage tin"(model As, etc). They all seem to be up north. So if I want to build a Hot Rod I have to build a truck to go get them first. I know its short but i can always stretch it out I don't have a bed on it yet.
