Possibly taking the plunge..

Well it's been about 6 years since I have visited this site after selling my '03 CTD. I have regretted it ever since and have had a few TDI Jettas and currently an Acura TL Type-S. With the hotrods I have it's almost impossible to do anything without having a truck in the stable.

Anyway started looking over the last few days and the prices are so close that it appears I may as well buy a used 2010. I haven't had time to dig through all the forum yet but can I assume that for the most part the 6.7 software issues have been resolved? I found a nice local 2010 SLT Crew SB 4x4 but looking at the carfax it hasn't had three of the last recalls done. One was a power steering cap, another was a software flash and honestly can't recall the third. I guess I am willing to take a 10+ mpg hit to get a truck again though and just want some opinions on the 2010 pros/cons if any?

Thanks!

3rd one was for the front end. Tie rods were actually breaking. Get the truck, than a decision whether or not you want to spend the coin on an EGR/DPF delete and a programmer.

What are real world numbers for mpg on these stock? 15-17 hwy? Most of my driving is hwy to work 60 miles round trip. If I could get 17 I will be okay but if it's 10-12 then I am gonna have to rethink this.

With delets 17 is no problem. Stock best I think I ever got was a combind hwy/back road was about 12.5.

Assuming you are not towing or hauling anything heavy and you keep the speed below 70 mph, I believe you could get 15-17 mpg on the highway. My mpg has been going up on my stock truck over the last few thousand miles. I am currently getting about 13-14 mpg with mixed highway and town driving and I have gotten as high as 17 on a 250 mile trip driving 70 mph on an interstate highway. Towing my 5th-wheel camper (15-16K pounds) I get 8-10 mpg. These mpg numbers were hand calculated.

2010 mileage

I bought a new 2500 crew long bed last year and I'm getting 17 -17.5 with a 32 mile round trip daily. 9 pulling my 30' enclosed race hauler at 70 mph and it is bone stock. But it sure can't match my 01 that I traded in.

I bought the truck Monday and on the way home about 75 miles it showed about 22.3 on the avg mpg. I am assuming it's at least 2 mpg high as my old one was so even at 19-20 that's certainly not too bad. The truck needed the last three recalls and two of them were flashes. I think the ECM flash was K34 or something. After the flash the last drive home it still stayed in the 20 mpg range but I'll be watching closely.

To be honest there is a difference between the 5.9 and the 6.7L (fuel mileage dept.) but in my opinion it's not much of a gap. With my 04.5 I had the same commute as the 2010. I got between 15-17mpg. I'm getting the same with my 10. I once took my 04.5 (unloaded without a 5th wheel for once)to a trip to Floida. I had the cat back banks exhaust, afe cold air intake and a Smarty JR (set on the economy setting). I drove 70 and slightly under the entire way there. I got 21mpg. On the way home I picked up the pace a bit and I was back in the 16-17mpg range (all hand calc)
This truck (10) will be close. On shorter trips I get 17mpg (hand calc) doing better than 70mph. Maybe my 04.5 wasn't as good as some others. But for my purposes the are both in the ball park for me.... And with all of the extra's with a fully loaded 10, like the 6 speed auto, exhaust brake, the 04.5 is way out of the ball park....
