When will the new 800Ft lbs be orderable? Tell me about the front axle..
Decided to order a new Truck but I think I'll wait for the new 800ft lb. engines to come out. Does any one know when I can order one?
Also, I'm thinking of going up from the 2500 I have now to a SRW 3500. Does the 3500 come with a beefier axle, or just heavier springs? (I want to put a 9' plow on the front that weighs about 900lbs.)
Thanks...

I have a 2010 2500..
I have always had a 3500. I cannot speak for these 2011.5 with the 800 torq's but i believe that the axle is the same with all the 6.7's and the plow package which maxes it out at 5500 lbs. I have a fisher xls on mine now and no problems and before that i had a 9.5 mvp plus western. I recommend a set of timbrens. If you really want upgrade the front springs, but not necessary.
I can send you pics if you want. Mine drops about an inch or so when lifted. Check out plowsite.com
cheers

Unless Dodge up's the FAWR for the Max Tow package (DRW only) your stuck with the same front axle on a 2500 RC Hemi as you are on a 3500 CC DRW, the max FAWR is 5,500 lbs for all diesels.
Dodge really needs to put a 6K lb axle under this beast.
Dodge said the 800 ft/lbs motor will be available 2nd qtr, so anywhere from April to June, or possibly not even until the 2012 model.

When ordering my truck on the build your own web site, I couldn't find anything about heavier front springs, the snow plow prep option window when dropped down said it included skid plate and bigger alternator (don't remember the size) is there something I missed when ordering or is the heavier front end something special? Or what is the front end rating on a standard 2500 4wd?
As I stated all diesels have 5500# front axle ratings, regarless of cab/bed/plow configurations. It's the only "option".
From my normal empty front weight to over the FAWR the front doesn't dip more than 1", a plow isn't too heavy for the springs... its just the front axle that needs more rating.

So, there is no difference in the front Axle from a 2500 to a 3500?
(God, I miss my old Dana 60 axle)
According to "Western" snow plow's web site, the 9' model will be over the limit of the 2500 Dodge's front end. So, if the 3500 isn't any sturdier, I may have to look at something else.
I know I read somewhere about there being heavier springs installed with the snow plow package, but it was a while ago, maybe back in early 2000 models.

I had a 08 2500 with a hemi. i put a snow dogg v plow that wieghted just shy of 1100lbs. i installed timbrens and put about 1500lbs in for ballast and never had a problem. It was a beast. Not sure if over weight but never had a problem. I think you would be fine, just my two cents
Its been quite a few years since I was an avid four wheeler, but if my memory serves me right, the Dana 60 was a beefier axle then whats under my 09 2500.
As for the rating of my current axle versus the Dana 60, your guess is as good as mine....
I just remember it took quite a bit of Horsepower and large tires to break that sucker... Though I did break it a few times.

By the way... being a responsible adult s*cks....
I think the AAM 9.25 can accept more abust than a stock D60, now a Currie or one of the other builders.. well probably not..
Stock for stock I do think the AAM 9.25 is tougher.. but it does leave some room for improvement..
We need an axle between the AAM 9.25 and the one in the 4500 (7000 lbs).

Wow.... now I'm having flashbacks. Currie Axles... I remember paying big dollars for a Beefed up Dana 60 from Currie for my Chevy back in my 4 wheelin days. I had 44" Super swamper's on my One ton Chevy Powered by a worked 454 big block and the stock Dana 60 couldn't handle it. So I had the local 4X4 shop buy/build me one from Currie. That thing was one tough axle.
I really do miss those days.....
