Do any of you have a suggestion on a oil filter for the first change?

I, like many other owners on this site, buy Fleetgard filters from Geno's. Search oil filters and you'll get lots of info. Hope that helps.

I would suggest that you take the truck back to the dealer and let them do the first oil change.
The oil filter is put on at the factory by Cummins. Then there is a clear coat spray that is put on the engine for protection during transit.

Everyone who changes their oil filter's for the first time have reported that the filter will not come off easy. In fact some have torn the filter in removing it. Let the dealer fight the first one and then you do all of the rest. Easier on you this way.

I'm using the Mopar for now. But I have two Baldwin dual flow filters I'm gonna try out. From what i read they have surpassed Amsoil filters in removing soot from the oil. I got them for $15.00 dollars each indirectly from Graingers, who list them for $16.00 each. Some Dodge guys are trying the out and are very pleased. Thier regular filters which are suppose to be better than Mopars are as low as $7.00 each
Part numbers are regular: BT 7349
Dual Flow : BD 7317

I don't know if they have surpassed them, but they are close. However, they only achieve that efficiency with multi pass & by-pass vs. full flow only.

However. not dissing them... they are doing a good job and the price is good.

With these newer trucks that are left stock. It just seems a waste to go with an expensive filter and Synthetic oil, unless you decide to ignore the change oil message that pops up every 4K. But reading the results from Blackstone Labs (i think thats the name)with reports for each filter (that had been posted elsewhere). The results showed a slight advantage to Baldwin in the soot removal dept.. So with these filters and dyno oil I should be able to make a long term difference while saving a buck. I looked up Amsoil's filter price, which is a bit pricier than Bladwin. So for me it was an easy choice. Both are much better than the stock Mopar Filter. So it should be a win-win for my truck. Especially since the Baldwin Dual flow filter is the same price as my Mopar filter.

Not sure as I am not near them at present. I buy them from the local Cummins/Volvo trucks dealer.
