High idle

Will keeping my truck on high idle all the time while idling at all help to keep my dpf from plugging up? I run equipment in Alberta and it's winter and cold and I need to be able to run this truck and idle about 1 hour in the morning and 1 at night?

Idleing for an hour or so wont hurt much if you have a good run with it later.

Not sure on the temp limits, but Id say anything over 230 or so Id get worried.

My son rolled into town late last night dragging a cargo trailer, because the roads were icy from the freezing rain and snow he was down to 30MPH for the last 8 hours. His check engine light has been on for weeks but he was in a remote location, he's at the dealer now and they say the DPF is plugged. He idles his truck lots and even with a fast idle installed by the dealer on his 2011 G56 truck it will not maintain the heat during extremely cold temps. He's going to ask the dealer to throw the new DPF in the back of the truck and just say they installed it. We've got "the stuff", H&S mini, egr/cooler, and stage 2 intake, not to forget the most important part, the hunk of exhaust pipe to replace those two horrible pieces. I'm hoping this will cure his problems, if not at least he will get better fuel economy but he doesn't pay for fuel, and if this doesn't solve his problems there is always an Espar heater.

We are finishing the full deletes today so if there is anything specific let me know. Basically there are 2, 2 position switches mounted on the control column, one for each speed 1200rpm and 1500rpm. I haven't followed the wires to see where they go but it looks simple. When he bought the truck in the spring there wasn't one available but it was being developed. He had to come back to the city because the check engine light was on and it was then when the dealer installed it. I haven't seen the truck since it was installed until yesterday and we were kind of busy. There is so much stuff in his truck it's not even funny. 2 Navs, 2 bluetooths (only the aftermarket bluetooth works) VHF com, radar detector, Ipod, cell charger and phone holder, remote charging points for the other guys, roof top light, there are so many wires it's hard to see out the front window. We did dash mount the mini max to clean things up a little though.

I don't know if you are replacing the factory intake manifold but when we removed my sons I just couldn't believe what I saw, the intake on the engine was very clogged with carbon and so was the manifold, there was raw fuel running down the inside of the boost pipe. It definitely shocked me. I snapped a couple of pics that are awaiting approval and will post them.

Dealer told me it couldnt be done on mine, no provisions in the ecm like the pre 10 models. So I mounted my XRT pro and control it with that ! 700-1500 rpm I think is the range.

The dealer also told my son it couldn't be done when he bought the truck in March/April they also told him something was in the works. I agree that using a programmer for the fast idle is a lot better as the two switches are not very "esthetically pleasing" ( they look like c***) but his is a work truck.

I'm pretty sure the mini max does also.

The only prob with the xrt pro is if its plugged in, its on. I rigged mine so it could be left plugged in to the obd port. At night or when I dont need it I just pop it off the mount(bottom pic) and put in console. Nothing holds the xrt to the mount other than the cable plug.
