Change fuel filters at 3500 miles?

I changed both fuel filters just prior to 15000 miles. I have been getting a message to change the filters and its been about 3500 miles? What could cause this?

I found another post where others experienced the same issue. It seems that the new software flash may affect the counter in a way that provides a false reading. Folks have done a reset to fix it and that's what I will do also.
