Jeff,

When pulling my 15,000 lb fifth wheel trailer, I get anywhere from 8.5 to 10.5 depending on whether I'm going up hill or down hill, with the wind or against the wind.

If I keep it around 58-60 mph, I get the best mileage.

i'm never the one with the great milege that some report. i get actually one mpg less with the 5500 over the '03 and '05 dullies that i had. i keep it pegged at 75mph pulling 14k in az, nm and tx. i get from 8-9.5 mpg. i only drive a steady 60mph in CA where speed limit is 55 with trailer. i do get better milige in CA going slower, but the difference doesn't warrant going slower in other states.

just for information sake. average driving speed limit plus 5mph, except in cities, i do just the speed limit.
hand calculated mileage for the last 10,030 miles i have averaged 11.82mpg.
this is the mix, i hope this will be of some help. (have all gas receipts and driving logs) it is the overall avg that is important to me
2,700miles at 60mph (26k for 570miles, 13k for 2130miles)
1,500 miles at 75mph (9k for 1500miles)
2,400 miles at 75mph (26k for 600miles, 13k for 1800miles)
3,430 miles of city driving (about 9k)
10,030 miles total
(13k was 8x14' dump utiltiy trailer in tow, 4k for trailer 9k for truck)
the suprise was the lowest mileage was in town empty 9.67 mpg. the overhead is way the blazes off for in town use. on the road depends on the wind direction and wind speed. this mileage include two round trips between san jose, ca and deming, nm. one round trip from deming, nm to dallas, tx.

Yep, that 70 and 75 mph driving will just KILL your MPG's. I like to drive that fast sometimes, but 95% of my driving is 58-62 mph. I drive that way when my 16,000 lb fifth wheel trailer is hooked up also.

Thanks for sharing your info.

2500 RPM at 75 sucks the fuel for sure, I just did a 200 mi road trip w/ lots of ups and downs (10.000 ft pass) av. speed 60-65 and it penciled out to about 11.8

I hope that I get a little better than yall are reporting when I take off here in two weeks on vacation hauling the 5ver for a couple thousand miles. I recently reset the valves, at 15k miles, and saw an improvement in MPG when combined with a BOD external waste gate. I made a 1600 mile trip hauling an empty car trailer and neted 14.5-15.5 MPG for the entire trip running 65-75 MPH with a gross of 12k pounds. Thats a 2-3 MPG over running empty prior to the work!

Robert,
did you pencil that or use the overhead? i don't know the comparison between the G56 with the 4.44's and ours have 6spd aisin auto with 4.88's. possibly you have an advantage. don't know how mountainist the area was you traveled, too many variables. for your sake hope you do get better mileage. 10,000 miles of mixed driving, i know what to expect from mine, it would vary if i traveled on fairly flat land at sea level.
have a wonderful trip.

hand calced pretty much evey trip. My overhead is out there in left field and is atleast 4 MPG optimistic. It is about as useful as an hour meter. My usual stomping ground is VA and the Apalachin mtns (small) but this upcoming will trip is Black hills bound. I should see the full range on that trip with 15k in tow.

Well am in IA at the moment. Running at 25k lb gross (approx as I havent rolled a scale) and hit 9MPG running through WV, then 10.25 the next leg. This was running 65-75 MPH most of the trip with the AC running constantly. I am going to switch settings on the XRT to see if that helps. The 120 tune was a little to hot on steep grades.
