tire question for dually truck

Hello all, I have a tire question that no one that I know can answer so I thought I would try it one you guys. I was wandering if I could run a wider tire in the front than what I have on the back. My truck has 235/80/17's.The reason for the question is that my truck seems to be wearing the front tires out very quickly, and I thought that a wider tire in the front would give it better stability.Would appreciate any input Thanks.

05 3500 ctd dually 4wd 6 spd totaly stock.

Duallys do that. You need to rotate the tires regularly. Are you planning on carrying two spares?

Putting a wider tire on the front isn't going to make it wear any less than what you have now. How are they wearing? Wearing more on one side more than the other? Cupping? Or are they wearing evenly across the tire, just to fast?

Well I don't know about that, but I know you have about 4600 lb's on the front axle. Heavier than a gas motor. I rotate mine around 3500 miles & they wear fine. Rotate them before they start to cup because it's too late then.

Just a side note. Look at the posting times of the last three. All one minute apart.

are you pulling anything or is this just running around?? If you are pulling heavy and you are seeing the fronts wear faster than I would look into the placement of the hitch. It may be too far forward and needing to be mooved back a little to relieve the fronts.

Hey thanks for the input, th etires are not cupping yet. This is my first diesel and the truck has 7000 miles on it and i got a little concerened about the wear. If the hitch is placed in the wrong place it could do this? I have a b&w turn over ball in the bed that I installed my self, but I thought that i done it per instructions. How do you know if you are to far fprward or back? Mine is just slightley forward of the rear axel.

I cannot tell you exactly where the ball is in my bed right now since my truck is sleeping at the dealership for the next few days waiting for christmas presents to arrive. But when I get it back I will measure. For some reason I want to say it was 41 inches but don't quote me on that!!!!! Maybe someone else can chime in with their measurement??!!!

On my dually it was just the opposite, my rears wore out long before the fronts, i have 112000 km on the truck and the fronts still have lots of tread, factory goodyears, i just replaced the rears as they were down to the wear bar, i only rotate side to side. i did the front to inside rear the way the book says but noticed that the front tire when mounted on the rear was a shade taller than the outer rear tire, which are swapped side to side when rotating, and that seems to me would wear that tire much quicker as it would be carrying more of the load. If you are going to rotate on a dually i guess the answer is to do it often, i waited to long on the first rotate.

Get the front aligenment checked and then rotate on a regular basis
