Dually Tire Question

Does the stock 17x6 front wheel pose a problem when mounting larger tires on a dually? I have seen some guys mount 35" on the front stock wheel and was just wondering if any tire can be mounted on that front 17x6....I am looking at some 35x12.5x17 and also am looking at 285's or 295's.....Thanks!

You can do it but would have to run spacers on the back.

I am running 285 BF mud terrains
I have a two inch spacer in the rear

I would like to go back to a 265 all terrain type tire

the 285's are a bit too wide for the 6" rim and do not wear very well

the fronts chop and the rears cup

also, when you mount a tire on a narrower than recommended rim it cuts down the actual weight capacity of the tire

dont quote me, but I think a 9" rim is recommended for a 285

I want a 255/80/17 but its not available that I know of

I originally wanted to do the 285's with rear spacers but opted to split the difference and go with the 265/70/17. Even they chop in the front and cup in the back. Luckily they are wearing fast and I will get to replace them soon.

I will be looking for a set of 235/80/17's for my next go round. I bought this truck to work it and my choice in tires has created a conflict.

With 265's I need to either run an 8mm spacer and 45psi or no spacer and 65psi to keep the duals from rubbing under load. Unloaded, 65 psi is a horrible ride and the tires wear fast in the center.

***One note about the spacer. The 8mm spacer is just enough to place the outside dual off the centering shoulder and therefore does not allow for centering of the outside dual. Isn't that a great idea?

i believe its the mud terrains that are your wear problems not the size of the tire

i am running 285s on my 05 with no issues whatsoever

i am no where near rubbing in the rear and the tires are wearing very well

bfg rugged trails, e rated

I will carry a 300Gallon water tank around in the back that's approx 2700lbs centered on the rear axle, this is when my duals rub. I have to run 60+ psi to keep them from touching without a spacer.

They may be pro comps but they are the all season and not the mudders. Still they are pretty soft. I'm looking forward to trying something else. My mileage has always sucked too so I'm hoping a harder tire will help get some of it back as well.
