Sport package
Is there any draw back to the sport package on the 3500 SRW? I don't need a Laramie. I want an SLT with certain options on it. Is the only difference the color matching bumpers? It seems the Sports are cheaper.

The Sport Package includes rear body color bumper with step, bodyside body color molding, body color front fascia, body color grille and 17" x 8.0" forged aluminum wheels. NOT AVAILABLE with AWL (off road group), K17 (Bodyside molding), AHD (snow plow group), APD (2 tone paint), Patriot Blue Clearcoat, Light Almond Pearl Metallic Clearcoat, Deep Molten Red Pearlcoat.
Edmunds doesn't say anything about having to be a good sport to order that package.

I have a 3500 SRW Sport Package.
Leather is too impractical for me and I prefer manual climate controls so I ordered a loaded Sport SLT. It was cheaper than the Laramie but equipped almost the same. I really like Dodge's build flexibility as the customer can put the truck together to fit his use.

It maybe a small complaint but with how high the truck sits, it seems like every time I use the rear bumper as a step to get into the bed of the truck, my shoes always make some sort of contact with the painted part of the bumper. Same thing in front if I have to stand on the bumper to do something with the engine. It could stand to have the rubber pads on top of the bumpers cover at least the lip of the bumpers where they curve to go down.

New here, but I just picked up a '99 2500 with the Sport Package and I LOVE it. The seats are more comfortable than the stock seats I sat in and they have integral headrests that hit me just right.
I guess the bottom line is to sit in both Sport & Non-Sport trimmed trucks and see which one you like better.

This is for Bluedoor, or anyone else that might be able to use this tip I did when I busted my shin after slipping off the slick, wet, chrome step on the rear bumper of my Toyota Tacoma years ago. Go to Home Depot, or Lowe's, and buy a strip of anti-slip tape about 14-15 inches long. You can get it however wide and long you want it. Clean the step on the bumper really good with some degreaser or alcohol, something like that, and put the tape on the step. It looks factory and you won't slip of mar the paint. The only downfall is you don't want to try to wash it with a wash mitt. It will destroy the mitt. LOL! Use a brush on the anti slip.
Thanks for all of the comments on the Sport package. I really like it and am considering going all the way to MO to buy one over a local non Sport packaged truck, if I buy new. I just don't know yet if I am ready to make that kind of expensive commitment!!!!!

the old ones might have had different seats, but the new Sports are just an appearance package. The seats in the SLT and Sport are the exact same on the 3g rams
