Camper package/Plow prep package springs

I know what comes in these two different packages but what I am curious about is the springs that come with them. Has anyone ever installed either of these springs in their truck? If I buy a Ram without them I plan on buying the springs and stabilizar bar and doing the job.<br><br>Speaking of buying another truck, I struck out on a '98 Quad, 4x4, 2500 with only a 109,000 for $12,000. I was a second shift late but it seemed like such a great buy.

Re:Camper package/Plow prep package springs

As for front coil springs, I know guys with plows on the CTD 2500's with the standard 039 drivers side and 038 passenger side, will buy (1) 046 spring, swap that out with the 039 on the drivers side, and take the 039 and install it on the passenger side. They claim it's a 20 minute job. Once spring rolls around, they put the standard ones back where they belong for a softer ride.

Re:Camper package/Plow prep package springs

Can someone explain the difference between these spring combinations and how to tell which is on a truck. I have a used 2500 with snow/tow package and would like to know. Is it hard to swap out the springs and what are approximate prices? Any help appreciated. Thanks.<br><br>Paul

Re:Camper package/Plow prep package springs

I ordered my truck with the camper and snow plow package. It came with a 47 drivers side and 46 passenger. You can go to http://dodgeram.org/tech/specs/springs.htm and get more info about the springs at Dave Fritz's site. My springs have a tag taped around one of the bottom coils that gives a part number and big digit number like 046 to ID the spring. They may be color coded too. My 46 is blue and my 47 is light green [beneath the ziebart, dirt, and black Rustoleum].

Re:Camper package/Plow prep package springs

Okay so clue me in guys. Why are there two different springs for the front driver and passenger, example 47 and 46? According to Fritz's site, they both have different load ratings.

Re:Camper package/Plow prep package springs

Just a guess but the load difference between the 047 and 046 is 182 lbs. or about the weight of an &quot;average&quot; man (and I've always been above average). The driver's side will always be loaded so may need the extra help. What I'm not sure of if there are any torque forces from engine rotation that would stress one side more than the other. Now you've given me another good reason to crawl under the truck.<br>

Don't forget the weight of the fuel in the tank, which is also located on the drivers side.<br><br><br>phox
