separating fogs from headlights
separating fogs from headlights
Has anyone rewired their fog lights so that they can be used with or without the headlights and when the headlights are on hi beam. I would like to do this as a extra safety measure in case headlights go out or to use in really heavy fog without the glare of the headlights like I was in the other night.
You can turn on just your parking lights (First click) and run your fog lights, at least mine does. As far as fogs with brights, check Geno's Garage. I believe it's Bright Box that does was you're asking for.
I have auto head lights on my truck so as soon as put it in gear the headlights come on,so that first idea of your's won't work but thanks for the reply.
Sounds like what you are actually wanting to do is to disable your daytime running lights, so you can run your fog lights without them?

Don't know if that can be done on these newer trucks with the TIPM. I did it on my 98 and wish I still had it instead of this modern computerized ****. Still say computers belong in the home and not in the vehicle.
Also, I believe you can command the DRL off with the factory scan tool, and I've heard some of the programmers can do it.
I would sure give it a try with the OEM switch for a clean factory look. It should work to do it the way you mention, although I haven't looked at the circuit.

If you simply use a factory wire and switch to operate a relay, then it act just like a factory light. You need to bypass the factory wiring altogether. Not difficult, really.
You could wire them up as a completly independant circuit, and have a trigger wire running off of your head light or running light to the relay. Whenever the lights are on, the fogs will be on.
I would suggest that you have a switch somewhere so you can turn them off if needed.
