REMOTE START/ALARM advice

i am looking to buy and have installed a alarm and remote start on my 2006 ram 2500 CTD and im looking for some advise

first off i would love some suggestions on what brands/ model #'s you have/prefer i want remote start/alarm w/tilt senser and glass break senser i would also like the 2 way remote with a long frequency range im thinking DEI (viper python or clifford) but i'm not sure I've also heard of compustar, crimegaurd, audiovox, and code alert but i don't know anything about them. Any advise would be great

Also I know that on my truck (2006 dodge) it takes certain bypass/interfaces for the senterykey can bus stuff but i dont know what all i need and im trying to figure out what i might have to add to the with basic install price that they quote you?

Most importantly I've heard some horror stories off installs gone bad at places like circuit city and best buy were people had to take truck back 2 or 3 times to get remote start working and i've even heard stories of people ( W/ new dodges) being told after 2 or 3 times back to store that they were giving up and had to uninstall the system because it just wouldn't work (circuit city)

So if anybody knows of good places to have this kind of work done on our trucks in the dallas fort worth area it would be greatly appreciated

thanks guys any help would be great

I went with the factory unit, very inexpensive compared to aftermarket units, and I installed it myself. Works perfect everytime.

Got a 2-way OEM for Christmas, have not installed it yet, looks like it's going to be a pain to install, but I don't trust big box.

The factory alarm for an 06 is not hard to install. The directions are very well written and even show you every bolt or screw that needs to come off the truck to do the install. Take your time and you will be done in about 4 hours.

I installed one in my truck in april just after I got it, cost was about $170.00 from the local dealer.

I have been looking into installing the factory remote start, cost is just under $300.00 as the alarm and a seperate module need to be purchesed, the install should be simple to do (I have seen the install instructions, and wire connection info)

You would use the factory security key to lock/arm unlock/disarm doors and alarm but would use the key fob that comes with the remote start to start the engine.

Also if you install the factory alarm the directions want you to tie strap the alarm module to the factory harness (seemed lame to me) I used self taping screws and attached it to the knee pannel under the steer colomb.

I did the code alarm ca670 on my last 06 ram and just installed a compustar (alarm only) on my current 06. If range is what you are looking for search for the compustar 2wss-as, it has around a 6000ft range, the longest I have seen. From what I have read compustar is hard to beat, I am happy with my alarm so far but I just installed it a few days ago.
I would likely stay away from places like best-buy and circuit city. I would go to talk to some of the smaller car audio places and see how they install their systems and what kind of guarantees they have. Also check to see if they have installed in the ram before, it is one of the most difficult vehicles with a very compliclated electrical system.

Range is endless with ca670 with the cl100/satellite

The Compustar is a great alarm! I have the Pro P2W9000FMR and it is the best alarm that i have had! Range is great and it has some really nice features like one where you can set your own knock sequence to nock on your door to unlock all your doors if you lock your keys in there or leave in there on purpose! Just like keyless entry but you knock! My brother in law has the 2WSSR and that one is also a great remote! I have had both a clifford and a viper and had problems with both so in my opinion i would say Compustar!
