Power Mirror helpon an 07

OK, stupidity rules today. Got in a hurry while backing into my garage, long story short, hit passenger mirror and bent it backward the wrong way. It did snap back into place and appeared no damage but not quite so lucky. Mirror adjusts up & down but not in & out. Any suggestions on how to get apart to check what I have broken. It did bend fully backwards, facing the front of the truck, so think I probably broke a cable??? if that is how they operate? anyone know and/or have any suggestions on how to check on what I broke..???

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

Don

Anyone have any thoughts on this. Really hate to buy a replacement mirror for what they cost if there is a way to repair it.

Again thanks in advance.....Don

check for contuinty throught the wires from the plug in the door to the motors behind the mirror, you will more then likely need to remove the door panel and the mirror glass to do this, I would start there.

Does the mirror assembly make any noise when you try to position it "in" or "out"?

Yes, can hear the motor run but no movement. Therefore the suggestion from Pruplezr shouldn't be the problem. Think I broke something attaching the motor to the mirror but so far can not see inside or how to remove the glass. Is there an easy way to remove the mirror? Know I saw how to replace glass somewhere but so far can't find it. Also can someone explain how the mirror works, just a motor that directly moves the mirror? or attached by cables or.? It is the heated towing mirror.

Again thanks...Don

Not saying that this is what is wrong with yours but when I hit my garage with my mirror it broke the drive assembly that attached to the mirror and I had to replace it. Part #KV-DG44ER cost $155.00 shipping included at this site http://www.wheelskin.com/koolvue.php...2500&year=2004 Side&make_name=Dodge&model_name=Ram 2500&year=2004

Anyway, if you can tilt your mirror all the way up you can look in with a flashlight inside at the bottom of the mirror toward the center inside the open gap and release the two pinch retaining clips. Once you take the tension off the two clips you can pop off the mirror. Mine came of fairly easy and my truck is a 2004 2500 with the swing out towing mirrors. Once you get the mirror off you can see the drive motors, 1 for up & down and 1 for left & right. Take care not to rip the rubber boot. You will most likely see the drive assembly is snapped or it may have simply popped out of place. Mine snapped, had to replace it. This is how my mirror came apart take caution and good luck.

OK, thanks to all for the replies. Time to dissemble, hopefully tomorrow if the storms hold off here in Michigan. Does anyone know if there is an epoxy that might repair the "Broken" part if that be the case? Really hate to spend the money if there is a fix out there.

Thanks for the replies....Don

I've had good luck with JB Weld, it's a two part epoxy that's really strong stuff. Like any epoxy, if the surfaces of the parts to be joined are slick, it will bond better if you rough them up a bit with sandpaper or a file.

OK finally got enough time to check it our. Very easy to remove the mirror face. It appears to be held on by 4 small clips with 4 on the motor face and 4 on the mirror back, tilt mirror so that it is open on the street side. Gently push it towards the truck while holding on to it. It will easily pop out. There are 3 or 4 small metal clips, mine only had 3 and I have no idea what they are for other than to maybe limit travel like stops would work. OK got that apart and checked movement with mirror face off, all worked OK. Up & down and left & right. Re assembled it and still no l/r movement, took it apart again, looked close, couldn't see anything wrong so more carefully reassembled it and all works fine. Might not have gotten one of the snap clips in place correctly. It is a very easy job to do so my guess is it saved me over $350 for a replacement mirror. I did discover that the mirror does fold forward, don't think my 04 did. Just be very careful when pushing the glass mirror out of the holder clips and it should come apart easily. No broken parts that I could see, just reassembly and all is well.
