My special wait to start light

I have looked at all of the psts on the wait to start light and I think that I have something different or maybe I cannot read Here is the issue... Light operates normally before start up, then all of that dimming "stuff" Drive truck get's up to "normal" operating temp get to work turn off truck (21 miles of driving at 60mph) Temp outside is 40 degrees. Immediately after turning off I restart and the light is on indicating cold condition. I could understand if it was sooo darn cold outside that the truck would cool down that much however me of little faith doesnt believe it. Sensor or something... Thanks in advance.

We have about the same truck, its about 30 degrees here when I go to work, first time in the morning the wait light is on, I drive for about 25 min to the first stop, after the stop (5min) I get back in the truck, no light. If it were me I would take it back to the dealer.

Mine is the same - after first drive, if the truck is still warm, no light when I attempt to restart - and it's getting cold here....

Off Topic: gsqhtr, I tried to reply to your PM and it says
"gsqhtr has chosen not to receive private messages or may not be allowed to receive private messages. Therefore you may not send your message to him/her." Don't know what you need to do - or maybe your PMs are full? Let me know what the deal is, I'll get back to you.

My truck is older, but in the middle of the summer, my light comes on for a second or 2.

On 06 and newer trucks, the wait to start light does not come on during the bulb check cycle. Since your truck is pre-06, the light does come on during the bulb check cycle.

Mine does the same crap. I can take my truck up to full op temp on a 30 deg or lower day, shut it off, come back in five mins, start the truck and the grid heater is cycling away! Im about 2 more times away from putting a toggle switch on it.

On my '08 the WTS light comes on for 2-3 seconds EVERY TIME I switch on the ignition, whether the truck is stone cold or completely warm!

I have seen from experience, with other friends and accomplices, not waiting for the wait to start light even in the summer. The thing is, to me, is that the light comes on for the lift pump to prime so when you are starting the system without letting the lift pump get a little fuel it is dry. Thus, yes the guys I called friends and accomplices are complaining about the lift pump going out. Well if the lift pump is lubed and cooled by the fuel just like the CP3 doesn't it pay to wait?

Overnight if the temp drops below 60 and the next morning it's up in the low 60s I get the yellow wait to start light. I don't think it's necessary but i wait to start anyway.

Maybe I should take it in?

I believe the WTS light get its temp reading from intake air, not engine temps.

all this rantin and ravin, must be the only complaint on the truck, considder it a good thing and another reason you bought the cummins in the first place.

The lift pump is not "dry" on startup and it is not going to overheat from not waiting. Waiting has no affect on the lift pump.

The wait to start is to give the grid time to warm up so the engine gets warmed air. It's only necessary in very cold climates. The Cummins is a very good starting engine, especially the first gens. The only time I've ever had to wait was with my old 1st gen at 9* and 6000 ft elevation. Never with the 3rd gen, but I've never had it below 10 degrees at 5000' when starting.
