Question Muffler problems

We started on vacation, pulling our 5ver last year heading South from OH and when we crossed into KY I heard a loud clanging from the rear of the truck. It was dark and late so we got some sleep and in the morning light discovered that my tail pipe had fallen off the muffler. Wired it up, but could not find a place to fix it in SC, or FL. On the way back, we were in GA and the front exhaust pipe came off the muffler as well. Driving the last 600 miles was not great. I admit I haven't treated the underbody as well as the upper half, however I didn't think this would happen at 90,000 miles. Anyone else have this kind of experience.

yeap but @ 200k+. Mine's fallen off twice now, but probably due to the first time it fell off I used 4" clamps that just wouldn't hold it tight enough. This last time I just took the muffler off, added some straight pipe with a 90 degree bend and brought the exhaust out in front of the rear tire.

I'll admit... I like the look... but the sound resonates pretty bad while towing our camper now. Wife hasn't said a word about it... but she's normally asleep anyways while I'm driving. So, it bugs me much more than her. I'm looking for a resonator to put on it and that should take care of it. Oh, I've also now welded all the connections, so the clamps aren't a problem anymore.

My muffler has a problem too. It has grass growing real deep all around out on the side of the garage. On yours, being in OH, salty roads will do that. Check some other stuff too. I've heard rear spring shackles get salt rusted big time too.

It sounds better without muffler, just put Geno's muffler delete pipe.

My factory tailpipe fell off the muffler at 5K miles.
No rust, just not secured very well from the factory.

I made sure the shop welded my current exhaust with MBRP muffler.

I just replaced my muffler with one I got off this board at 100K. Same thing happened after I got stuck off roading in my driveway and I knocked the tail pipe off the rest of the way.

There's always someone that likes it loud and takes the muffler off. I picked mine up for pennies on the dollar to what a replacement would cost.

Thanks for the feedback. At least now I don't feel so bad, and your right, the salt will do that. Sounds like I just need to break down and get me another set up that will be more to my liking.

mine is rusting out and splitting along the bottom seam... will only be a matter on months before it fails... rest of the exhaust system looks bad too. will probably replace with a stainless, turbo back system, once it lets loose...
