locking fuel door

Well with the cost of fuel so people think that it is okay to steal fuel in my neighborhood. So I am looking for a locking fuel door, any suggestions on a good quality product that won't break the bank? Also any opinions on if I should get a chrome or black one. My truck is white if that makes a difference

I would use a locking gas cap instead. If they try to pry the fuel door open, you then could have body damage.

I wouldnt use one at all because then all they would do is cut the fill tube or drill the tank. Locking cap/door is not going to stop them, just make it a little harder, if they are determined they will get your fuel.

If someone is prepared to drill your tank, I don't think it will matter if the cap locks or not. I have the locking cap and all it does is act as a deterrent, since it can be removed without a key. But I don't believe in telling wannabe crooks or vandals how to do it on an open forum.

Somehow I doubt the wouldbe vandals/crooks are scanning these forums to steal your diesel

Any tips for law abiding citizens that happen to lose the key?(Or are on the recieving end of a bad prank) I would think youd kind of be screwed

I realize that if they really want the fuel they will get it. My thinking is it might be a deterrent and in the process I can convince the wife to let me upgrade the truck a little. So I am just looking for a quality fuel door that will add to the look of the truck a little.

Genos has them. I've got one. I agree it won't stop them if they want it bad enough though!

I also got the little fuel flap thing that keeps fuel from running down the side of the truck. Its a good thing to get too.

Just something i noticed but the 06 and newer trucks dont need a locking cap.. they are impossible to siphon unless you go thru the vent tube.. I tried when the ex filled up with 20 gallons of unleaded..

Could you explain in more detail what you tried? Just wondering why it could not be done. I have heard there is an anti siphon ball in the fill hose but also heard if you hit it pretty hard with the siphoning hose it will just push the ball into the tank. That is just hearsay to me though.

Never underestimate the motivation of a crook. Why, I may have just been duped by sending you the "Secret".
