rear door locking

hello all, proud owner of a brand new 2003 quad cab ho diesel w/six speed manual here. I have owned the truck all of 5 days now.

I am annoyed a little about one feature, can you guys help?

My truck has the keyless entry (not the alarm) with power locks. when the truck hits 15mph it locks all the doors. when you stop, it doesn't unlock them. the front doors will open if you grab the handle, however the rear doors have to be unlocked before the people in back can get out.

Is there a way to have it so when you turn off the truck it unlocks all 4 doors?

I tried the little central locking deal mentioned in the user manual, I don't have the central locking system it would appear.

Thanks in advance!

Re:rear door locking

I had the same annoying problem, but just followed the procedure in the owners manual and that fixed it.

I believe this is discussed in the manual. Many people have had to repeat the process several times before they got it to work.

Re:rear door locking

I haven't seen how to reprogram that specifically in the manual. can anyone point me to it.

I have seen things about how to program so the horn chirp is on or off when locking with the key fob, and stuff like that, however seem to have missed the part about unlocking all 4 doors when turning off the ignition.

thanks for the quick replies!!!

Re:rear door locking

Just checked my owners manual. Went to the index under "Locks" then "Doors". From there it was easy to find the full instructions on pages 15 & 16. You may need to try it a few times to make it work.

Re:rear door locking

Mine usually does not unlock the rear doors when I open the driver's door, but every once in a while, it does???? Go figure... ??? My owner's manual only discusses (on pages 15-16) how to turn the automatic locking system on or off when you reach 15 mph; not how to have the back doors unlock automatically when the driver's door is opened. Anybody???

Re:rear door locking

When you shutdown the truck, if the driver is the first to open his door all the other doors will unlock. If someone else opens theirs first, then opening the drivers door does nothing. Also if you open the drivers door before you shutdown, nothing happens for the other doors.

Sounds like your truck is working logically. Wish mine worked like that. My rear doors only unlock every great once in a while, yet I always shutdown first, and most of the time, the driver's door is the first or only one to open. I can't seem to find any rhyme or reason to it.

Re:rear door locking

I also believe this is an automatic thing. Us standard guys don't get the auto unlock. Something about the park position. I think DC put it there so the little kidlets don't fall out when you stop.
