THere are Alumi drive shafts out there. I actually have one. IT fixed the vib
Details, Please!!!!!

Also, I don't know if it's true but . . . there's a guy on TDR who made a trade deal with his dealer/DC (unclear) where they bought back his auto, he drove several autos from the lot which all vibrated and finally settled on a six speed. His parting comment was the DC was going to issue a bulletin at the end of the year that the vibe is NORMAL and they're going to do nothing about it. I truly hope that's not the case. If so, there will be a lot of unhappy people.

WOW thats crappy!! guys...

when i bought my 2004.5 dodge cummins 3500 SRW, Laramie IT HAD THE VIBE.

right at 69 mph it vibed, so i took it into the dealer (Joliet Dodge) and they said that they knew of the problem, they replaced the front drive shaft, and it was FIXED.

havent had a vibe since then, some of those dealers out there are garbage!

i planned to keep mine stock too,,,,however,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,didn"t turn out that way
if u have the vib. u will have to turn off the radio to here it,,it"s not that noticeable, u will have to listen for it, it"s a pulsing that starts in front goes,, to the back and starts in the front again, or have someone else drive and put ur ear on the back seat

Not on mine. We feel it in the seats. Since we took a 2500 Hemi for a ride today. Wife said my truck feels like "dirty word". She didn't realize how bad it was until she rode in one that doesn't have it. It's NOT the power steering/brake hydro boost hose. I had the weighted hose put on and that all but eliminated the buzz in the steering wheel and peddles. They replaced the shaft with another used shaft and it reduced the vibe alot but it's still there and getting worse. I can slip the tranny into neutral at 70mph and coast down through the vibration speed and it's there whether the engine is at idle or above. It's NOT engine vibes and it's NOT normal. The only other time I've ever felt this frequency vibration was when I broke a bolt off of the clutch pressure plate mounting flange on a '70 Maverick. Same frequency but since it was attached to the engine I could rev it to the vibe rpm sitting still and duplicate it. I used an easy out and fixed it. With my truck, I've actually put the rear end on jack stands and run it up to 68mph. The vibration is the same as when it's on the road. I had my wife run it while I carefully looked under it without getting near the tires and I could see the shaft vibrating causing a blurred image of it. At idle in gear with the shaft turning slowly I could see that the shaft had alot of run out at the pinion. Now I'm getting a gear whine in the rear end starting at 58mph. It's annoying and while towing our 5th wheel it's very loud.
We drove through the local Ford dealership after the Dodge dealership. If they would have had a CC LB F-250 with V-10 it would be in our driveway. I looked at one in Meridian Mississippi last week as I dreaded driving our droaning vibrating Dodge Cummins the 714miles back. If it were 4x2 and CC I would have bought it. They offered $9k off MSRP but it was a 4x4 and that tiny little SC that's just big enough for a weenie dog sideways.
At the Dodge dealership in Meridian Mississippi, I was told they've replace several steel driveshafts with aluminum shafts and it has cured the apperantly common vibration in the third gens. He said they'd replace mine but I had to get back home for work. The dealership is Johnson Dodge in Meridian if anyone is close to it.

Mine is a 04.5 4x4 QC 6 speed 3.73 gears. I read abought the vibe before I bought the truck and when I test drove it I could not feel it. A few months later when I went on vacation I was travaling down the interstate and was not paying much atention to speed and got up to 80 mph. All at once my I heard what sounded like a pack of Harlys coming up beside me, but there was no one there. All of us in the truck where looking around for some loud vehicle passing us but we couldent find it. I never even thought of the driveline vibe because I had dismissed it. I thought I was one of the lucky ones that got away withought it. As soon as my speed droped below 80 mph it disapered and then I realized I had an 80 mph vibe and a bad one at that. I havent decided if I should push the isue or not. I almost never drive that fast.

And at about 2500rpm you were well above the 2100rpm normal engine buzz rpm.
The TSB for gear whine doesn't apply to my truck. Even though the TSB says in the list of trucks, SO 47RE LB QC 2wd, it calls for a different transmission part number than I have. The TSB says it involves installing a slip yoke with a vibration damper on it and mine has a damper so maybe I already have that mod.
There's another TSB for launch shudder that might cure my high speed vibe. Drive line angles that cause launch shudder also can cause high speed vibes like we're getting according to my shop manual. It says an out of balanced drive shaft should show up at around 55mph and up. It's a long shot but worth a try. I'm willing to try anything at this point. I keep wanting to trade for a Hemi or a Ford V-10 and then I look at my truck and don't want to get rid of it. I want to fix this one simple should be easy to fix problem.
