I'll be the new whiner

I'll try not to...but I may be the new whiner waiting for the new truck...I ordered it up on saturday. '03 3500 SRW HO 6 spd. with nearly every goody available (not all of them, but most..).

So, thanks for all the answered questions, I think (certainly hope) I'm getting all the options I want.

Dealer said the factory was closed until the 6th, so nothing is really going to happen until then I guess. We aggreed on $100 over invoice - but he said he wouldn't have the invoice for while. When does the dealer get the invoice ? How can I be sure the number he gives me is truley his invoice and not doctored somehow? I know roughly what it should be from the kelly blue book new car pricing that I went through about fifty times -adding more options every time...

Anyhow - any advice on handling things from here (pertaining to custom orders with the dealer) is appreciated, and I'll try not to whine and whimper to much during the waiting period.

Thanks,

Rob
How do you order a truck and not know how much its going to cost? I thought dealers knew what they paid for a truck up front. I've bought alot of new cars and everyone of them knew the price up front of what it was costing them. I think you sales guy is blowing smoke, but I could stand corrected.

Re:I'll be the new whiner

Well, here's some good news then. I ordered my truck on November 20 and it arrived on December 20. That's good news for the forum, ' cause we won't have to listen to the whinning for too long.

As far as paying x over invoice, that seems to be an unsettled topic around here. Some folks have said that the dealer agreed to charge current invoice price, others say you pay the invoice on the truck when it arrives. I guess it all depends on the deal you strike with the dealer. My dealer said that selling at invoice plus meant that whatever the invoice price was on the truck, which I think is established when it starts down the line. Maybe someone knowlegeable about this can chime in. Heck, invoice might be established when DC assigns a VIN number and production date, who knows. Anyway, there also seems to be a bit of confusion over which rebates apply. Again, this seems to vary by dealer. Mine said I'd get the rebates and incentives available when the truck was delivered.

Now that I've got my 2500 QC HO 6sp, I'm just so excited to drive it I've forgotten the hassle of buying it from a dealer. Since men don't experience the pain of childbirth, I guess we pay by having to buy our trucks from car dealerships.
Re:I'll be the new whiner

There does seem to be alot of confusion over pricing/rebates etc. The dealer told me something similar to what soundbrz is saying...he said he gets the invoice when they start building, and at that time he would give the invoice/price to me. He also said, in regards to rebates & incetive that I basically got to pick the best deal - either the offers that were in place when I ordered, or the offers that were current upon delivery, what ever was better.

Re:I'll be the new whiner

TON4FUN, The dealer finds out the price he is paying for the truck after it is built. I ordered mine 6/20, the build date was 8/6. The dealer was invoiced for the truck on 9/8 the day it was shipped. The dealer did not receive the truck until 10/8. That is the way dealers do business.

As I've said before, If you agree to a dollar amount over Invoice, the dealer will give you a better deal because he then knows exactly what his markup is. If you try to get a contract in writing on a firm price before you order, the dealer will give you a higher price because he must allow for a price increase from the factory so he won't lose money on the deal if there is a price increase before he is invoiced. The dealer is in business to make money first and last.

Re:I'll be the new whiner

My deal was invoice minus whatever incentives "might" be available when it arrived. I was shown a copy of the invoice at closing. That, minus the current incentive, is what I paid.

You must realize there are some area additions to the invoice price you might see from the web. It depends where your dealer are as to what those additions are. Mine were about $700.

I ordered the first day DC would accept an order, so we had no clue as to what the price might come in at. Only had hearsay that it would be at or close to 2002. They up the invoice many times within 30 days of the first shippings of a new model.

Bob

UP here in the north, the dealers can only bring a Deisel in if it is sold. When I first went to order mine they were unsure of the costs.

jt

New to Forum

Hey guys and gals! I ran across this forum while surfing the net today, and decided I would join. My name is Jason, and I am the BusinessLink Account Manager for Bluebonnet Chrysler-Dodge in New Braunfels, TX. I will be checking in periodically to see how things are going, but if any of y'all have any questions about the new Heavy Duties, or about the commercial incentives DC offers, I will do my best to answer any questions. Bluebonnet Chrysler-Dodge is the fastest growing Dodge dealership in TX, and with the installation of the BusinessLink program last month, we are gearing up to double our sales in two months time! Keep the questions/input coming, y'all are great.

Of course, I don't think they have much trouble selling them here.

Sold orders are price protected against price increases.

Re:I'll be the new whiner

That's what my dealer said also. Any decreases would be passed on to me but it could not get more expensive.
