Hood liner necessary!??!

So today I pulled into work and noticed a pool of oil forming underneath my truck. I popped the hood to investigate, and noticed my the fitting to my Oil Bypass cap had came some what loose and was spraying oil everywhere. So I tightened it down and double checked everything; upon closing the hood I noticed my hood liner had the indention of my cap in it and it was saturated with oil. The liner is sagged and I just need to know if it is necessary to have if there or not, my gut says its not but I'd like a second opinion!

it's not necessary. you will get more noise and in the winter you will lose heat but in the summer that is good.

I was told its not just for insulation.. Those plastic clips melt and that mat acts as a blanket with some hope to smother any under hood fires..

It also protects the paint from all the heat of the engine.

All the early 3rd gens didn't come with a hood liner. It's only there for noise suppression.

I pulled it out of the 99 and drove it for years. Nobody knew it but me and now whoever reads this reply.

I have considered removing a few of them because it likes to sag on the egr cooler bypass valve on the undeleted 6.7's. I have seen it cause problems, but have never fully removed one, I just trim them.

Mine was sagging badly . . gone . . I then did a product similar to dynamat on the hood. MUCH better than the stock hood liner.

My 04 never came with one either. Seven years later my paint on the hood looks the same.
