I also had a diesel fuel smell in the cab and noticed diesel fuel all over the head by the fuel rail and on most of the injectors....going into the dealer today for that and a bunch of other stuff that I've been putting off.

I have 17000 miles on mine.
The smell was there when I bought it, then went away. I had read it would come back with an oil change. Used the delvac, if it smelled I don't recall, must not have been long. I put the extended tube on, did not help. I have changed oil again using delo, smells worse than ever even after 2000 miles. Goes away on recirculate, but if I do not switch it while stopped, it is horrible.
Not sure about the spelling of the oils but it should be close enough so you know which ones I was using.
There are vents in the back of the cab, for air flow, you cna really hear it, when you have the fan on high and are outside the truck, windows up. I thought some backdraft may come through there, but with the fan on and windows up that should not happen, this is not fuel, it is used oil smell.

This thread is starting to concern me. Is this more prevalent in 2003 models? I notice some 2004s chiming in. Also, is it every unit or just an "unlucky" few.

I'm about to place my order and this is definitely a concern.

Thanks,
Neil

i may be the lucky one but i just extended the vent with about 24" of 3/4" hose ... twist tied it to the tranny lines ... extended about 3" behind the rearmost tranny line and all smell of rotella synthetic is gone ... took 2 minutes and solved the odor problem ... gonna run it into the frame one of these days but for the time being problem solved

I have a brand new 2004 Dodge Ram 3500 SLT Quad Cab 4x4 with the 5.9L H.O and I have the oil smell in the cab. I have been told by the dealer that this is a sealed crankcase and there is no breather tube on this model. I have tried the oil conditioner as recommended NO GOOD. Have had the oils changed @ 7500 K.M. and with Chrysler Oil and no luck still smells. Does anyone know if the fix by Dave Rounsevell is applicable to the new 04's
