Exhaust smell inside cab???

What the heck is this exhaust smell inside my cab? This is a new problem, which is driving me crazy because it is intermittent. Does anyone else get this? Any ideas where it might be coming from?

Huh, that's not normal. Have you checked over the manifold and connections to the downpipe?

Yesterday ... and added a Fumoto drain valve to alleviate the leak, but the smell was there before the oil change. It's similar to when you follow a school bus with your windows down.

I've got the same smell...I get it intermittantly as well. at first I thought it was exhaust...but I have no leakes and sometimes I get the smell while I am going fast down the highway...so it cant be exhaust fumes...it's got to be an oil smell out of the puke bottle.

Make sure that your down pipe is tight. A friend of mine had the same problem. It was just loose enough that a little soot would come down through the top part of the down pipe, near the turbo. I would chech there.

Mine was doing that, and I tracked it to a cracked flange on the back of the turbo...where the elbow is.

i had the same smell. If you have an isolator on your fp guage check to see if all connections are tight. Mine were loose and the smell would literally put you out.

Another place to look: get a mirror and look underneath the exhaust manifold right in the center where the two halves join; look for a crack with soot along it.

Thanks for the info. guys, I'll check these things out this week. Been busy with the honey-do's, but got the go-ahead for a weekend of fishing, next weekend! Well worth the sacrifice!

I had this problem for months. 2010 diesel 3500 4x4. After chasing all the fuel lines and exhaust lines and sensors, I found a few leaks but none of them fixed the smell. Finally, the dealership told me I was due for a new internal crank case filter. Changed it, and the smell went away completely.
