Does defrost button do anything?
Does defrost button do anything?
I don't have a rear defroster, but wish I did.
Does the defrost button do anything? When I press it, the little orange light comes on.

Do you possibly have power/heated mirrors?
They are GREAT in the winter. ;D

I guess I thought the heated mirrors were on all the time like the new Fords.
Several times I wished my Ford had heated mirrors, so they will be nice when I do take the truck out in the winter.

That button only turns on the heated mirrors. However, when you turn the windshield defroster on, the mirror heat also comes on.

Are you 100% certain about that?? As I understand it from my manual, you have to push the button to turn the heated mirrors on.

Hoss, I haven't read the manual for my new 03. But the first 03 I bought, very early production run, the manual did say somehwere that when selecting defrost for the windshield the heated mirrors were activated.
I may have been in one of the many hallucinatory states that my wife so often accuses me of, but I am pretty sure I read that.

Re:Does defrost button do anything?
No, that is correct. According to the manual when in Defrost the Heated mirrors are suppose to come on also, however I have yet to see this unless they come on at a much lower power thatn when pressing the button>
Re:Does defrost button do anything?
That button also activates the rear defroster.
(Which if anyone is keeping score, I am finding useful already this year far more than I ever used a POWERED rear slider)

On my Ford, I opened the sliding rear window exactly once. I had no desire for a power sliding window.
I wasn't disappointed that the '03 I found on the lot didn't have a sliding rear window.

Well...if this is true then that's pretty cool. I thought you had to push the button to get the heated mirrors to turn on. I just wish I had a defroster on the rear window. :-

I think if I HAD a power sliding rear window I'd use it all the time. I always enjoyed riding around with the rear window open, but reaching back and opening it by hand is a pain when you're driving down the road.

This all makes sense to me now. When it is raining, I will occasionally use the Defrost mode to keep my windows from fogging up. At the same time, I notice the mirrors are crystal clear. If I'm not running the defroster, the mirrors will be foggy and covered with raindrops.
For some reason, i've never really had too much frost on my back window. The rest of my truck could be covered in frost, but the back window is still clear enough to see through.

Re:Does defrost button do anything?
Thats a nice feature to have the mirrors turn on when the defrost is on. DC's Canuck R&D department must've come up with that one so that Rod can see when he is backing into a sheep... :P :
Errr ummm uhh whoops.
I was looking for the rear defrost button and made the conclusion that the mirrors and the rear defrost all turn on at the same time with the one switch...so does that mean when the controls are on defrost, the mirrors and the rear window are heated?
Makes it kinda fool proof.
