Angry chime going off for no reason!

I have a 03 CTD Larme and it has 66000 miles on it and for some reason the chime (ding, ding,) in the dash just goes off for no reason! I look at the dash for and idiot light and nothing comes on! The ding is erratic. Sometimes one and then sometimes its two! Does anyone else have this problem?

Welcome to DTR!

You most likely have a tail light bulb going out. That sensor is very sensitive and it can actually tell if your bulbs are going out before they do.

Try replacing one or both of your tail light bulbs and see if that cures it.

Yes light bulbs are one possibility, but the next possibility is also something to consider. Do you have the NAV unit? If your NAV/radio is turned off sometimes you will get one ding (not always), if your radio is on at startup you will get one ding, or you turn it on after startup, you will get two dings, this occurs when the NAV cannot read the NAV disc. I have experienced this when the temps are cold first thing in the morning mostly. It has also occurred when I have not had the radio on and first turn it on regardless of temp.

It's probably the tailight dinger. It happens so quickly that you don't even see the Lamp Out light flash for a split second. It's usually one of the middle bulbs in the tailights

Since you have an '03 you may need to have TSB 08-004-03 applied.
