Lightbulb Tech Tip : How to shut off annoying door chime.

Ever have to work on the interior of the truck and need the doors open, and want to listen to the radio? Except that when you put the key in the door chime keeps going and gets old real quick . I have found out how to silence it. At least on the second gens. Underneath the drivers side dash above the brake pedal, look for a green connector and simply unplug. Door chime will stop. However remember to plug it back in as the same module controls the interior lights. It may be different on different years, mine is a 01. Just listen to get a general location, and look for a small box, put your finger on it when its chiming, you should feel a slight vibration on every ding. If so, you found it.

If you just want to silence the alarm you can just push the pin switch in that is on the front of the door jam once and it will silence the alarm untill the key is cycled again

Well it don't work for mine. I was going to look for the one wire that signals "key-in-ignition" and snip it. I have a hide a key, but have not needed it except for when I was running late and couldn't find my keys, so I am not worried about being locked out. I still want it to tell me if I left my lights ons when the door is open. I just have not had the time to look for it.

I came across this in the third gen. section, posted by Tom Bolitho.

"I am not sure about the 03 but on my 01 there are two wires attached to the back of the tumblers. I just unplugged them. All function of the damned dinger work except the key in the ignition."

I just ripped out the whole buzzer module. It got rid of that annoying buzz sound when you turn your truck on too.

Yeah, it looks like it is different on different years. I unplugged mine while cleaning out the truck, The chime got real annoying real quick. When I unplugged the connector (I was already looking up as I was under the dash) I noticed the interior lights went out when I unplugged it. They came back on when I was done and plugged the box back in.

Wow...it's amazing how different years work differently for even the silliest things like door buzzers, sheesh! Gotta keep those DC engineers employed, I guess.
