On my 98 12 valve , If I come to an abrupt stop or back up in a hurry the oil pressure guage goes to 0 and goes ding ding and then comes back up . Im guessing its the sending unit ( I hope anyways ) any info on how to trouble shoot and replace > is this a common problem ?

Put a mechanical gauge on it to be sure.

When you get a sender, get genuine Cummins, they last.
