BRAKE CONTROL WIRING QUESTION

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just received my brake controller and it has 4 wires coming out of the back of it. My question is do I splice these into the harness somewhere, or is there a plug I can connect to the bare wires that will just plug into the harness somewhere under the dash

Re:BRAKE CONTROL WIRING QUESTION

Hi, On my '03 there is a blue connector on top of a major electrical connector above and maybe a little left of the clutch peddle. I don't know if all trucks have this connector or just ones equipped with the trailer tow option. If you got a truck with the tow package the mating connector (also has a blue connector) with some pigtail wires on it for connecting to your controller came in a plastic bag with a sheet of paper or two with directions for its use. Look and see if you have the blue connector under your dash and if you did not get the matching mating connector with your truck PM me with your address and such and I'll send you a spare unused one I have. Did that all make sense?

Re:BRAKE CONTROL WIRING QUESTION

I see the mounted blue plug under the dash, but i dont have the other end to plug into it.(the one with 4 bare wires sticking out of it) I could splice into the rear of the plug, but i would rather get the plug that goes into it

Re:BRAKE CONTROL WIRING QUESTION

Just a heads up for those of you with the towing package and can't find the brake controller plug which is normally located under the dash to pull down and connect. Mine was buried deep under the front driver's side carpet. We had to pull the carpet fully back to get it out. We just about gave up looking for it when we discovered it about an hour into the installation. Hope this saves someone the time we wasted. >

Re:BRAKE CONTROL WIRING QUESTION

I would recommend putting a diode in the blue wire to stop a reverse feed from frying the brake control if the beakaway is pulled. The one I use is a Caterpillar part #2W4899. I am sure you could find a cheaper one ( I used to work for the Cat Dealer before I retired). I have transfered this diode from the last three vehicles I have owned.

Re:BRAKE CONTROL WIRING QUESTION

Does it have to be a Caterpillar Diode or can i get one at Radio Shack?

Also, anybody know if the Tow Package wiring is just to accept the braking controller or is it able to engage "uncontrolled" electric brakes through the big jack on the bumper?

Thanks in advance
